What to Expect
The Tesla Camera Team designs and integrates camera modules and cleaning solutions across all Tesla vehicle platforms. We're seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to develop next-generation sensor cleaning systems critical to Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capabilities. This role offers direct impact on vehicle safety, rapid prototype-to-production cycles, and collaboration across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing teams.
What You’ll Do
- Lead integration and validation of sensor cleaning systems for camera modules across Tesla vehicle platforms, primarily for camera on autonomous and electric vehicles
- Design and validate cleaning systems (nozzles, air jets, wipers) for ADAS sensors and design creative design solutions and mechanisms to support Autopilot requirements
- Collaborate with Autopilot, electrical, and body engineering teams
- Develop system-level integration with sensor housings, and develop specifications and accelerated test plans to validate the product for its determined lifetime
- Investigate several cleaning technologies and help validate them on fleet vehicles
- Fabricate prototypes, iterate rapidly, advance your concepts through to volume production
- Manage suppliers, including technical reviews, DFM/DFA assessments, and timeline commitments, to execute projects according to the design specifications and timeline commitments
What You’ll Bring
- 3 years of experience in automotive ADAS or cleaning system development
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or equivalent experience
- Hands-on Prototyping and validating next generation automotive cleaning technologies
- Experience with environmental testing (IP67, thermal cycling, vibration)
- Understanding of polymers, seals, and fluid dynamics for cleaning systems
- Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred)
- Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
