About the role

What to Expect
The Gateway team is seeking a Software Engineer to design the frameworks and infrastructure that validate the current and next generation of Tesla products, including the Cybercab and Robotaxi platforms. The Gateway sits at the heart of every Tesla vehicle and performs several mission-critical functions—including, but not limited to, delivering Over-the-Air updates, logging and telemetry, and providing a highly available gear-shifting interface via the display.
You will build the automated tools and test infrastructure that ensure we deliver high-quality, robust, and reliable software across all of these functions. With Tesla's fleet spanning millions of vehicles, your work will prove that the Gateway holds up not just in the lab, but at scale in the real world. Join a team of engineers who solve challenging problems in embedded software validation by prioritizing automation—building test systems that scale with the product and catch issues before they ever reach a vehicle.
What You’ll Do

  • Own the quality of the Gateway, a core component in the vehicle
  • Define the automation infrastructure needed to scale validation beyond current limits
  • Maintain autonomous test and reporting infrastructure
  • Develop scenarios, test cases, and write test code to test Gateway using hardware and software in the loop testing environments
  • Define, gather, maintain and report on performance and health metrics related to the Gateway
  • Work cross-functionally to investigate and validate issues
  • You will own validation sign-off for every release
  • Communicating with Developers, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers to proactively identify problems and gaps in tests

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • 1+ year of C and Rust/Python experience
  • Ability to code and debug multi-threaded C and Rust/Python code
  • Ability to understand, test, and troubleshoot complicated system interactions
  • Experience developing tests with reusable code
  • Ability to drive problems to solutions across different groups in the company
  • Ability to develop test guidelines from specifications
  • Experience shipping customer facing software and hardware
  • CAN Bus experience, preferred
