Staff Software Engineer, Sales Management Platform
About the role
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Sales Management Platform team and lead technical strategy for systems that sales advisors worldwide rely on every day. SMP is Tesla’s in-house CRM—powering lead conversion, demand generation, order creation, pre-order guidance, and sales activity management across Vehicle (B2C & B2B), Home Energy, Charging, Commercial, and more.
You will architect scalable backend services, real-time data pipelines, and AI-assisted experiences that reduce friction for advisors and partner teams. You’ll collaborate with Product, QA, Support, and engineering partners across Tesla platforms, while helping evolve SMP for new products and Tesla’s broader AI transformation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead architecture and delivery of high-availability SMP backend services spanning APIs, data models, search, dashboards and event-driven pipelines
- Design and maintain integrations with other systems to support multi-market sales complexity
- Drive AI-first initiatives to automate advisor and internal workflows and reduce operational toil
- Implement reliable orchestration and human-in-the-loop patterns where automation and exception handling must coexist
- Mentor junior and senior engineers; raise the bar on system design, code quality, and platform standards
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure solutions align with product goals, operational needs, and advisor impact
- Strengthen reliability and observability through tracing, logging, and metrics for performance, data quality, and rapid incident response
- Identify opportunities where backend, data, and AI trends can improve scale, automation, and developer experience
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and operating production distributed systems at scale
- Strong proficiency in modern backend languages, with preference for Go (Golang) and/or Python
- Solid CS fundamentals plus experience with CI/CD (Jenkins, Argo), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
- Hands-on experience with Postgres, Open Search, Click House, Redis, and event-driven systems (Kafka and/or RabbitMQ)
- Experience building AI agents or integrating LLMs/agentic workflows into production applications (e.g., OpenAI, Hugging Face, Lang Chain, Llama Index)
- Proven ability to architect high availability microservices and influence technical direction across teams
- Track record delivering mission-critical systems with global-scale complexity and high-uptime requirements
