About the role

What to Expect

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This requires fast paced innovation and execution.

The Document Systems team supports Tesla’s mission by providing world-class systems for document management including generation, e-signing, storage, lifecycle administration, security, and audit support. In this role you’ll be building and maintaining these systems. Our documents touch almost every part of the Tesla organization globally and are key to supporting every vehicle we deliver, every energy product we sell, and every finance contract and insurance policy we set up. They’re designed for external customers, internal team members, government agencies, and many other discerning stakeholders.

As a Software Engineer, you will help build and scale Tesla's document systems platform, a core system that supports vehicle, energy, insurance, and service transactions worldwide. Millions of customers interact with Tesla through these mission-critical documents every day, making this a highly visible, high impact role. You must possess exceptional software engineering skills, attention to detail, and a strong commitment. You will work closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to design and deliver reliable, high-quality platform capabilities that support business-critical workflows at a global scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient RESTful microservices using .NET 6 and C# ensuring high performance, security, and adherence to best practices
  • Work with MySQL databases to implement data structures supporting microservices
  • Gain exposure to Docker for containerization of microservices, contributing to the team's efforts for portability and scalability
  • Participate in code reviews to learn and maintain high-quality code standards, best practices, and security guidelines
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation for microservices, APIs, and CI/CD processes
  • Collaborate with the team in troubleshooting and resolving issues in the production environment, gaining valuable hands-on experience
  • Develop and execute comprehensive integration test suites for Microservices to ensure reliability and interoperability. Drive the implementation of automated testing strategies as an integral part of the CI/CD pipeline

What You’ll Bring

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with a focus on .NET 6, C#, MySQL, Docker, CI/CD, Git, Microservices, Integration Testing, and REST API development
  • Basic understanding of microservices architecture principles and RESTful API design
  • Exposure to MySQL databases and basic database management skills
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control using Git
  • Eagerness to learn and adopt new technologies and best practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication
  • Passion for sustainable technology and a strong interest in contributing to the automotive industry
  • Experience shipping production systems in which an ML model is a component (not the core product), including designing robust handling for model failures, uncertainty, and downtime
  • Hands-on experience with OCR, layout models, vision-language models (VLMs), embedding-based retrieval, and treating prompt engineering as a rigorous engineering discipline rather than an art
