
Systems Engineer, Drive Unit Test
About the role
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to develop high-volume automated functional test equipment (such as dynamometers) with the Drive Unit Assembly team in Austin, TX. You will work closely with Tesla’s internal Product Design, Operations, Production and Quality Engineering teams and lead cross-functional design activities with automation equipment vendors to develop and deploy new Drive Unit test systems. You will assume full ownership of the design, development, and optimization of the equipment and process along with lead the technical transfer of the tools to Tesla Operations, qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
What You’ll Do
- Develop new highly automated manufacturing test systems from concept to production
- Develop machine and process specifications
- Lead installation, qualification, and initial production ramp
- Analyze data and drive actions to optimize quality, throughput, and availability while reducing cost and lead-time
- Collaborate with product design, production engineering, safety, quality, and operations
What You’ll Bring
- Experience analyzing production data sets to drive equipment and process improvements (SQL, JMP, Minitab)
- Automated test equipment design and development experience (NVH or Dyno equipment a plus)
- Specification and validation of manufacturing test equipment and processes
- Familiarity with high/low voltage industrial and manufacturing test hardware (DAQs, CAN, measurement systems)
- Capital equipment vendor management
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
