We are looking for a motivated, hands-on test engineer to join the Low Voltage Test Automation group, a team building robust, data-driven equipment for Tesla’s vehicle electronics. Our work spans the full product life cycle, from early engineering validation to high-volume production, and we are known across the company for tackling tough problems head-on and getting it done.

This team moves fast. Projects can go from idea to deployed test equipment in just weeks, supporting products on the cutting edge of Tesla’s innovation. What You’ll Do

  • Take full ownership of end-to-end test station design including station layout test fixtures with pogo connectors electrical enclosures and hardware integration optimizing for equipment reliability and serviceability
  • Select and adapt off-the-shelf mechanical and electrical components validating performance with lab instrumentation e g DAQs multimeters and continuity testers
  • Develop innovative end-to-end test strategies and specifications e g electrical limits fixture tolerances qualification protocols and pass/fail criteria for test stations and manufacturing lines collaborating with other team members on implementation
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics create wiring diagrams and document wire harness with comprehensive build instructions for outsourcing to contract manufacturers and seamless handoff to sustaining teams
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical assemblies electrical interfaces and system-level integration ensuring reliability from individual fixtures through full test station qualification
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design manufacturing and supplier teams to enhance design for manufacturability replicate equipment consistently and address production equipment design issues like accessibility and durability
  • Manage multiple high-stakes test station projects in parallel applying strong judgment to balance priorities innovate based on first principles and meet tight deadlines

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or proof of exceptional skills in related field with practical hands-on engineering experience, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of demonstrated excellence as a Test Engineer or equivalent in a manufacturing setting for automotive robotics or related industries
  • Experience with tester architecture system qualification troubleshooting limit definition and process validation
  • Ability to quickly learn new engineering concepts and innovate based on first principles
  • Exposure to diverse test systems industrial equipment pogo-pins industrial sensors PLCs pneumatics microcontrollers etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to filter and distill relevant information for the right audience
  • Remain engaged proactive and positive in tough circumstances owning assignments and taking full accountability for project success under tight changing deadlines
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15
