The Investment Solutions Group (ISG) Client Portfolio Manager (Japan) is a highly visible role within State Street Investment Management (SSIM) ’s ISG focused on representing our multi-asset investment capabilities to clients and prospects in Japan. In this capacity, the individual plays an integral role in articulating the firm’s investment’s capabilities and value proposition even beyond ISG’s investment strategies, supporting the sales and client servicing effort, deeply involved in business and product development planning and acting as a liaison with Product and Marketing organizations to achieve our overall business objectives. The main client segment will be institutional investors but is also expected to address to retail investors.
More concretely, the individual will address information requests from clients/prospects; developing compelling messaging and collateral material; writing effective thought leadership; training client facing colleagues on ISG strategies’ key merits and differentiators; presenting macro and market views; contributing to the strategic and tactical asset allocation investment process; and championing ISG both inside SSIM and externally.
In addition, this individual will support local Japan investment department in multiple dimensions which potentially includes coverage of Active Equity strategies and Stewardship client reporting as well as administrative and governance related responsibilities in the department dependent on the individual’s experiences and business demands.
Successful candidates will have a minimum 10 years of experience with investments and client engagement. High-end interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication capabilities are required. In addition, candidates should show passion for investment management and embrace teamwork.
What you will be responsible for
The ISG Client Portfolio Manager (Japan) reports directly to Global Head of Portfolio Strategy, ISG (Boston) with matrix reporting to Chief Investment Officer (Japan).
- Serve as subject matter experts for ISG and its multi-asset investment capabilities
- Drive the multi-asset business development strategy in Japan, positioning and marketing for ISG’s capabilities as well as other SSIM’s broad investment strategies with a focus on highlighting key points of differentiation
- Represent other non-ISG’s investment strategies and services at high level which potentially includes Active Equity and Stewardship client reporting dependent on experiences and business demands
- Contribute to the RFP/RFI process and create compelling collateral materials in partnership with the RFP team and other Subject Matter Experts
- Own some of administrative and governance related responsibilities in Japan Investment Department
- Ability to participate in and contribute to ISG’s strategic and tactical asset allocation investment process with specific focus on model portfolios

Education and Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree in Business or Finance and/or CFA designation preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience with both investments and client engagement.
- Familiarity with financial software (eg Fact Set, Bloomberg), along with developed quantitative skills, MS office
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to execute independently yet also maintain a strong team orientation
- Experience with both quantitative and judgmental investment styles in multiple-asset classes
- Deep knowledge of ETFs
