State Street’s Financing Solutions (FS) division is comprised of three distinct business lines: Agency Lending, Prime Services and Secured Financing.

Agency Lending is our traditional and long-established business line involved in physical Stock Borrow and Lending; with a substantial global footprint and deep market connectivity State Street is considered an industry leader in the space. Agency Lending helps to generate liquidity for global financial markets and earn additional yield for clients. Clients lend their underutilized securities via the Agency program to a borrower against collateral for a fee.Prime Services is a form of Principal Lending and is a more recent addition to the product line; Prime offers unique custodial services to clients helping them improve their counterparty risk profile whilst adding efficient solutions that support their financing needs. The relatively new Secured Financing component of the division connects a wide range of market participants to funding solutions via peer-to-peer proprietary and industry platforms. Secured Financing has been the fastest growth area of the division in recent years and reflects strong momentum of demand for dollar financing solutions in a high rate environment.

Who we are looking for

The Agency Lending Trading Team is seeking to expand its footprint with an opportunity at ‘Assistant Vice President’ level based in Hong Kong. This is the opportunity to be part of a small specialized and experienced trading team right at the forefront of frontier growth markets, working together to build stronger outcomes for our clients; there are significant opportunities to work with deep datasets to extrapolate value, working closely with our low touch systematic trading team. Possessing a strong character is helpful for being effective in this role, as is a history of teamwork whether in sport or in a work environment. Consideration will be made to those who express a strong interest in global Fixed Income and Equity Markets, and those confident enough to take a view on something and be comfortable enough questioning the status quo.

Your job as an Agency Lending Trader will be to learn the ropes quickly, assuming a role as a contributor to the bottom line; you will be expected to build your career and develop a network within the Securities Finance market and within the firm; you will be expected to act consistently and conscientiously, with the best interests of our clients in mind, to trade their assets in an efficient, effective and profitable manner. State Street takes its position as a safe keeper of assets very seriously and trust is a mainstay of our organization; all team members are expected to comply with a myriad of internal and external rules and regulations which serve to protect our clients and the institution; diligence and maturity is critical in this regard.

You will be exposed to a great mix of technology, innovation, operations, sales, trading, marketing, strategy, and relationship management. Support will come from on the job training, along with regular catch up sessions with your manager; there will be some latitude in the role, if you are hungry by nature and a self-starter, you will likely excel.

What you will be responsible for

As Agency Lending Trader, you will

• Negotiate stock volumes and borrowing levels efficiently and profitably

• Monitor, check and respond to all relevant indications of interest and reply in a prompt and expedient manner

• Attempt to ascertain the reason for borrow demand e.g. CBs, Pairs, Shorts

• Thoroughly check inventory for possible revenue opportunities

• Summarise daily trade flow to your peers in our global trading locations

• Apply and adjust any relevant rate changes onto outstanding and future borrows

• Facilitate all pending or failing settlement issues by liaising with the appropriate operations personnel and counterparties ensuring all endeavours are made in order to settle trades

• Conduct regular meetings with counterparties to discuss concerns, progress against goals, new trade or product opportunities etc.

• Engage clients regularly in order to enhance goodwill and strengthen relationships

• Continually seek improvements in all areas of trading and other associated areas.

• 5 days a week in-office based role

• Market conditions can dictate alterations to daily scheduling

• General trading hours span from 7am-5pm

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• Degree level (BA, BSc or international equivalent)

• Bi or Multi-lingual ability will be beneficial and pertinent to the role

• Securities & Futures Commission (Hong Kong) registered Type 1 (Dealing in Securities

• Sound knowledge and understanding of Equity Finance, particularly within the field of SBL

• Prior SBL/Prime Brokerage/Securities Financing experience

• Programming skills or practical AI usage would be advantageous

• Corporate Action experience highly valued
