Overview
This role is at Spirit Aero Systems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.
Responsibilities
Spirit’s Structural Test Lab provides test services to all programs at Spirit Aero Systems. With test being one of the final steps in the project life cycle, schedule changes and tight deadlines are standard operating conditions. As a team, test lab personnel must work together to provide effective and accurate test solutions to our customers in a timely manner.
Working within a Structural Test Lab Machine Shop environment, the ideal candidate will be required to:
- Construct, fabricate, assemble, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment, components, or devices
- Work from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions
- Provide material selection, machining process, design improvement suggestions to designers
- Operate a wide variety of shop tools and equipment (CNC and manual mills, lathes, saws, drill presses, etc.)
- Fabricate or modify parts to very close tolerances to support exacting test requirements
- Work effectively and supportively in a team environment while being able to work independently with minimal oversight
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- 7+ years working as a technician in a related field
- Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings or schematics
- Independently build or fabricate engineering test parts based on engineering drawings
- Operate manual and CNC mills and other tools and equipment safely with minimal oversight
- Propose solutions to engineering requirements
- Coordinate lifting of items and assemblies, some potentially heavy, either individually, with other personnel or specialty lifting devices including overhead cranes
- Work with potentially hazardous equipment or on potentially hazardous test activities, following all safety equipment and processes mandated for those activities
- Training or Certifications in Master Cam, CATIA, CNC Operation, NC Programming
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Ability to Obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
- 2- year Associate's Degree from Trade/Technical School
- Experience with or be willing to learn machine shop type equipment (drills, saws, sanders, etc), ovens and autoclaves, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment
- Familiarity with aerospace specifications preferred
- Experience with FTIR, GDS, GCMS instrumentation is also preferred
- Previous OSHA/ Safety HAZ MAT Training/Certifications
