The company currently owns and operates 14 biogas plants across Europe and3 biogas assets in North America, with new projects continuously being launched. Shell Biogas employs approximately500 dedicated professionals across offices in Europe and the U.S.

As a Production Optimizer and Planner, you will be responsible for tactical and operational planning of biomass and production across European biogas plants (primarily in Denmark), ensuring efficient, resilient, and financially optimized operations. You will work from our Odense headquarters as part of a team of experienced colleagues.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Develop and ensure execution of production plans.

• Translate strategic production plans into tactical schedules, broken down into weekly and daily plans based on biomass availability.

• Lead short-term production optimization and operational planning to maximize plant efficiency.

• Communicate weekly biomass plans to Plant Managers, Supply Chain, and Procurement, detailing capacity utilization and biomass requirements. Adjust plans as needed based on feedback (e.g., production, storage, or logistics issues), troubleshoot problems, and keep all stakeholders informed.

• Ensure production activities align with plans, biomass availability, and dispatch schedules.

• Conduct weekly follow-ups to verify adherence to biomass plans and gas output targets. Collaborate with Plant Managers, Supply Chain, and Procurement to address issues and improve future planning.

• Coordinate with Plant Managers on capacity utilization and deviations.

• Continuously optimize production planning with a focus on profitability and cost efficiency.

• Monitor production processes to ensure alignment with financial targets and operational goals.

• Contribute to operational planning at the plant level, ensuring annual biomass plans meet financial and operational objectives.

• Support budgeting and forecasting processes by aligning production planning with financial targets.

• Oversee compliance with fertilizer value targets.

• Ensure adherence to corporate governance and regulatory requirements.

• Provide management reports on production performance, deviations, and planning efficiency to support strategic decisions and profitability tracking.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders including Procurement (for industrial biomass contracts), Supply Chain Management (for agricultural biomass contracts), Plant staff (for technical constraints and capabilities), and Portfolio Planners during tactical planning, feedstock acceptance, and budgeting processes.

What We’re Looking For

• Educational background in production, chemical or biotechnology engineering, microbiology, chemistry, operations planning, or similar.

• Proven experience in production planning, ideally within biogas or biotechnology industries.

• Strong analytical and structured approach to planning and problem-solving.

• Familiarity with process or production industries (biogas or biotechnology preferred).

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

• High proficiency in Excel.

• Fluency in Danish and English, both spoken and written.
