Scopely is looking for a Director of Marketing to join an unannounced title based in our Shanghai office (5 days in the office).
At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues, or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious mobile game in China, and we’re assembling a team of passionate game makers to craft unforgettable characters and immersive adventures that players will love.
What You Will Do
We are seeking an experienced Director of Marketing to lead the marketing strategy and execution for an ambitious mobile game launching in China. This is a rare opportunity to shape the China-market presence.
As the senior-most marketing leader for this title in China, you will build and lead the local marketing function, working closely with our global teams, regional partners, and the IP holder to bring a world-class game to millions of players across China. While the role carries significant strategic responsibility, effective collaboration and alignment with the IP licensor are essential to success.
-
Build and lead the China marketing function, establishing the strategic foundation for positioning, audience definition, and key messaging for this major IP-based mobile title.
-
Develop and execute comprehensive China-market launch and live-ops strategies, leveraging local platforms, media channels, and community ecosystems to drive awareness, acquisition, and engagement.
-
Create integrated, data-driven campaigns across brand, content, social, and performance marketing, ensuring clear KPIs, measurement frameworks, and ongoing optimization.
-
Partner closely with cross-functional teams—Product, Community, BD, Operations, Legal, and Communications—to ensure aligned, executable marketing plans grounded in product goals.
-
Collaborate with our global marketing teams across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas to share insights, coordinate global campaign beats, and represent China-market needs.
-
Manage the day-to-day relationship with the external IP licensor, including alignment on strategy, creative review, and approval processes.
-
Build and maintain strong local partnerships, including agencies, platform partners, KOL/influencer networks, and experiential vendors to support major campaigns and community initiatives.
-
Guide influencer, community, and experiential activation strategies tailored to China’s unique digital and offline ecosystems.
-
Analyze campaign performance and ROI, applying insights to continuously enhance efficiency, scale, and impact.
What We’re Looking For
-
10–12+ years of experience leading marketing strategy and teams for successful mobile F2P titles in China, especially live-service games.
-
Fluent in Mandarin and English; strong cross-cultural communication skills.
-
Deep understanding of China’s mobile gaming ecosystem, including UA, content marketing, social platforms, KOL strategy, agency management, and media optimization.
-
Demonstrated success launching or scaling major games in China with measurable business impact.
-
Experience developing and executing innovative, community-driven marketing strategies tailored to local audiences.
-
Proven ability to work with global licensors or external IP holders, with sensitivity to alignment, approvals, and brand guardrails.
-
Strong analytical skills, with comfort interpreting complex data and translating insights into action.
-
Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, including experience presenting to executives.
Bonus Points
-
Experience running large-scale offline activations or IRL experiential campaigns in China.
-
A track record of growing loyal, passionate player communities.
-
Past success with GTM strategy for highly visible or viral mobile titles.
-
Fluency in Japanese is a plus.

[CA] During the initial interview with HR, I was asked my salary expectation and said 60k. After the second round interview with hiring manager, I realize the scope of the position is far greater, more complex and demanding than the role I thought it'd be. Can I change my salary expectation now?
During 1st interview with HR, I said 60k when asked. During 2nd interview with hiring manager, I learned more concrete details about the role beyond the job description. I realized 60k was actually a lowball and 70k is more appropriate for the level of work. Can I ask for a higher salary? And if so, at what time? Would the correct timing be *after* I get an offer letter? Like if the offer letter says 60k, then I can counter with 70k?
