Lauritz Knudsen Electrical and Automation is a pioneering electrical and automation brand with a rich legacy of over 70 years in India. This position will be for Vadodara Plant for Lauritz Knudsen Electrical & Automation (A unit of Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd.) Designation: GM – Organization-Wide Technical Skill Development Experience: 15-18+ years of experience in the Switchgear Industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, either in Technical Training, R&D, or Manufacturing Operations. Position Summary The Lead for Technical Skill Development will spearhead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive, company-wide technical competency framework. This role is responsible for upskilling the technical workforce (engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and field service) in Low Voltage switchgear products (ACB, MCCB, MCB, Panels, Switchboards) and modern manufacturing processes (IoT, automation). The goal is to build a high-performance culture, reduce R&D-to-production transfer time, improve quality, and standardize technical processes across all plants in India. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Strategic & Technical Leadership Competency Mapping: Define role-based technical competencies for engineering, production, quality, and R&D roles (e.g., design engineers, testing technicians, assembly line workers). Technical Roadmap: Develop a multi-year technical skill development strategy aligned with the company’s product roadmap, focusing on IEC standards, 61439 panel solutions, and digital switchgear technologies. Knowledge Management: Create a structured repository for technical knowledge, standardizing design practices, and ensuring "lessons learned" are implemented across projects. Training Design & Implementation Curriculum Development: Design, curate, and implement technical training modules for LV Switchgear design, manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting. Hands-on Training: Lead practical, hands-on sessions for technicians on switchgear assembly, testing protocols, and safety procedures. Modern Training Methods: Implement hybrid learning solutions, including e-learning platforms, virtual reality (VR) simulations for complex assembly, and classroom workshops. Onboarding: Develop a rigorous technical induction program for new engineering and production hires. Operational & Cross-Functional Coordination Location Coordination: Coordinate training across different plants and R&D centres in India to ensure consistency and standardize operating procedures. Subject Matter Expert (SME) Liaison: Work closely with R&D, QA, Manufacturing, and Engineering heads to ensure training content is up to date with new product introductions and engineering changes. External Training: Collaborate with external industry experts, technical institutes, and consultants for specialized training. Assessment & Effectiveness Measurement TNA (Training Needs Analysis): Conduct individual and team skills gap analyses regularly. ROI/Impact Measurement: Evaluate training effectiveness through metrics, such as reduced rework, faster troubleshooting, and improved productivity in manufacturing. Certification: Implement certification programs to recognize technical expertise within the organization. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Percentage of employees certified under the technical competency framework. Reduction in manufacturing rework or quality issues attributed to skill gaps. Reduction in time-to-market for new products (R&D to production training efficiency). Training hours per employee (technical). Adherence to the Annual Training Calendar. Required Candidate Profile: Education & Experience Education: B.E./ B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Production Engineering (essential). M.Tech in Power Systems/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering is a plus. Experience: 15-18+ years of experience in the Switchgear Industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, either in Technical Training, R&D, or Manufacturing Operations. Knowledge: Deep understanding of Low Voltage Switchgear products (ACB, MCCB, Switchboards) and IEC/IS standards (especially IEC 61439). Skills & Competencies Technical Expertise: Strong background in design, testing, and troubleshooting of switchgear components and panels. Training Skills: Expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and modern training technologies. Leadership: Proven ability to manage teams and drive initiatives across multiple locations. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to engage both shop-floor technicians and senior R&D management. Preferred Qualifications Certification in Training & Development. Six Sigma Black Belt Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning creation tools.
