Sr Design Engineer, Polymer
- Role Summary The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting material characterization, polymer testing, root cause analysis (RCA), and development activities within the Materials Center of Excellence. The role requires hands-on experience with polymer analytical instruments and strong problem‑solving capabilities to support product development, quality improvement, and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct polymer material testing using DSC, TGA, DMA, UTM, SEM and other analytical equipment.
- Perform detailed root cause analysis (RCA) for material‑related product issues and generate technical reports.
- Support material selection, qualification, and validation for new product development and localization programs.
- Work closely with design teams to provide material recommendations, failure insights, and design improvements.
- Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare structured documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate with suppliers, labs, and cross‑functional engineering teams to resolve material challenges.
- Ensure adherence to company standards, safety protocols, and global testing procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation projects, and materials database updates.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of polymer materials, additives, and processing methods.
- Hands‑on experience operating and interpreting results from DSC, TGA, DMA, UTM, SEM.
- Good understanding of polymer degradation mechanisms, failure modes, and performance evaluation. -- Strong analytical thinking, data interpretation, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to work in cross‑functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to electrical/consumer product materials preferred.
- Experience in product development, reliability testing, or supplier material evaluation.
- Knowledge of sustainability materials, recyclability, and green polymer initiatives is a plus. Behavioral Attributes
