We are seeking a HVAC Sensor Architect to join our Montreal-based R&D team.

This role is the technical leadership point for evaluating, selecting, and integrating sensor technologies across our intelligent devices, including Living Space Sensors and Gas Platforms.

It connects hardware design, vendor engagement, and system integration to ensure that our products rely on reliable, scalable, and advanced sensor solutions.

You will work closely with global agile teams located in Portland, Montreal, and Bangalore.

You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for all sensor related decisions and innovations.

What you'll be doing Sensor strategy and Architecture Define and develop sensor architecture for HVAC and BMS applications.

Evaluate and select sensor technologies based on performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory requirements.

Lead sensor integration into embedded systems and cloud connected platforms.

Technology Development Collaborate with cross functional teams to develop and validate sensor solutions related to indoor air quality, differential pressure, gas detection, and refrigerant leak detection.

Lead the scouting and evaluation of new sensor technologies and vendors.

System design and Integration Optimize sensor placement and calibration strategies for real world environments.

Contribute to the design of sensor interfaces and signal conditioning circuits.

Define integration strategies for analog outputs, wired protocols such as BACnet MSTP and Modbus, and wireless protocols including Zigbee, LoRA, and BLE.

Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to ensure cohesive system integration.

Compliance and Standards Ensure sensor systems meet industry standards including ASHRAE, ISO, UL, and CE.

Remain current on environmental regulations and refrigerant safety standards.

Cross Functional Collaboration Collaborate with product managers as well as hardware and software teams to align sensor capabilities with product goals.

Coordinate with global teams in Portland, Montreal, and Bangalore to maintain consistency in architecture and implementation.

Innovation and Future readiness Explore and propose next generation wireless sensor technologies such as Zigbee and Wirepas.

Stay informed about industry trends and emerging sensor platforms.

Vendor and Partner Engagement Act as the technical liaison with sensor vendors and technology partners.

Lead technical discussions, assessments, and onboarding of new sensor suppliers.

What you'll bring Strong expertise in analog sensor technologies, signal conditioning, and environmental sensing (temperature, humidity, CO₂, VOC, NO, refrigeration gases, particulate matter, audio or video sensing) Hands on experience with sensor calibration, environmental testing, and sensor system architecture

Experience: with industrial communication protocols including RS‑485, BACnet MSTP, and Modbus Strong knowledge of sensor physics, signal processing, embedded systems, and microcontroller interfaces Ability to write and interpret technical specifications, schematics, and architecture documentation

Experience: working with cross functional and international teams, including vendor evaluation and technology scouting Excellent communication skills, effective stakeholder management, and a professional, proactive, results oriented approach

Experience: working in agile development environments Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field, combined with more than eight years of experience in sensor design, integration, or architecture roles Nice to have

Experience: with wireless protocols including Zigbee, BLE, Thread, and 802.15.4 Familiarity with Secure Development Life Cycle Understanding of the product development lifecycle including agile methods and integration testing

Experience: with Git and GitHub Knowledge of wireless sensor technologies including Zigbee, Wirepas, and BLE Familiarity with calibration and testing methodologies Exposure to IoT platforms and cloud connected systems Understanding of EMC and EMI considerations in sensor design
