Iron Core Project is SAP’s next generation Open Source Cloud Infrastructure based on Kubernetes. Within the Iron Core team we manage physical servers, storage and network infrastructure with Kubernetes controllers – providing a modern Cloud infrastructure as a Service to SAP developers and customers. Iron Core uses a modern Software Defined Everything approach as well as hardware offloading capabilities to provide a flexible, yet performant base layer for application deployments.
Iron Core team days are filled with design thinking, passionate discussions and coding around network, Linux, storage, Kubernetes and virtualization. Joining our team means being part of a dynamic, supportive environment where your never get bored.
We’re building ApeiroRA, an open-source reference architecture that strengthens Europe’s digital sovereignty. This initiative is part of a broader movement to ensure security, sustainability, and compliance for cloud-to-edge computing. What you'll do

Based on DC and Cloud Networking experience define, document and continuously evolve reference network architecture patterns for large-scale and edge Iron Core cloud environments.

Lead design and adoption of observability platforms (metrics, logs, traces, telemetry pipelines) for infrastructure and platform services.

Shape and drive the technical roadmap and long-term direction of Iron Core data-center networking and observability capabilities in collaboration with platform and product stakeholders.

Evaluate new technologies and drive innovation initiatives across Iron Core cloud networking and infrastructure operations.
-
Translate complex infrastructure capabilities into clear product increments, milestones, and value propositions.
-
Act as one of technical product owners in Iron Core, aligning engineering execution with platform strategy and stakeholder requirements.

Coordinate cross-team delivery across networking, compute, storage, and platform engineering domains.

Explore and collaborate with SAP teams and external partners on platform internal and external adoption.
What we're looking for
-
University degree in computer science, networking, or engineering disciplines.

Extensive experience in data-center networking or cloud provider infrastructure environments.

Solid understanding of cloud networking, distributed systems, and infrastructure reliability engineering.

Background in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and modern infrastructure delivery models.

Strong expertise in observability architectures and operational analytics at scale.
-
Good understanding of Kubernetes, deep understanding of cloud native principles.
-
Proven track record in product or portfolio management for technical infrastructure platforms.
-
Experience bridging technical strategy and business outcomes, driving roadmap execution.

Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills in international environments.

Proficiency in system programming language, preferably in Go or C.

High proficiency in English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in German is beneficial.
