Position Summary

The PCS Chiller Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial chiller systems and equipment. The role ensures that plant cooling loads are met reliably, safely, and efficiently while minimizing downtime and energy costs. The technician works closely with engineering, process control, and maintenance teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Role and Responsibilities

Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For:

Daily Operation & Monitoring

  • Observe chiller and heat‑exchanger performance (temperature, pressure, flow, power).
  • Log operating data and flag any deviations from set‑points.
  • Adjust controls to maintain optimal performance within safety limits.

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

  • Execute scheduled PM tasks (filter changes, refrigerant checks, mechanical inspections).
  • Use fault‑diagnosis tools (pressure gauges, hygrometers, loop‑through catchers) to isolate and resolve issues.
  • Document all maintenance actions, including parts used and hours logged.

Emergency Response & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to alarms or system failures in a rapid, systematic way.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis (24‑hour Log check, visual inspection, data trend).
  • Restore service while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Component Replacement & Calibration

  • Replace wear items (compressors, motors, valves, sensors) when warranted by wear data or vendor recommendations.
  • Calibrate temperature and pressure sensors according to approved procedures.
  • Verify accuracy after calibration before returning equipment to service.

Energy & Efficiency Oversight

  • Review k Wh consumption reports and compare against historical baselines.
  • Suggest simple dispatchable changes (e.g., load shifting, operational mode adjustments).
  • Assist engineering in evaluating retrofit options such as variable‑speed drives or heat‑recovery units.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures and refrigerant handling protocols.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date safety training certificates (e.g., refrigerant P/T certification).
  • Keep all logs audit‑ready and support internal or external inspections.

Stakeholder Interaction

  • Liaise with plant maintenance, process engineers, and production supervisors to understand load requirements and scheduling constraints.
  • Attend daily huddles and provide concise status updates.
  • Support capital‑project teams with field data and equipment verification.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Fill out daily reports summarizing operations, incidents, and maintenance actions.
  • Contribute to weekly KPI dashboards (energy per unit, mean‑time‑between‑failure).
  • Review and update SOPs when equipment or procedures change.

Skills and Qualifications

Here's what you'll need:

  • A Bachelor’s or technical degree (or equivalent) is preferred; Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.

  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience with industrial refrigeration or HVAC systems.

  • Direct service or maintenance of chillers, refrigeration compressors, or heat‑exchangers is required.

  • Any HVAC or industrial refrigeration certification (ASHRAE/ISO, OCP/EMI) is a plus.

  • OSHA 30‑hour general industry safety course is required

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic PLC/automation troubleshooting, Competence in leak‑detector usage and pressure‑test equipment, Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and maintenance manuals.
