At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

Our San Diego Manufacturing Depot provides sustainment support for legacy Raytheon magnetics products used in Aegis and Patriot Radar systems. We build and repair electrical transformers, power supplies, and magnetic assemblies utilizing expertise in coil winding, electrical assembly, soldering, encapsulation, welding/machining, and electrical testing.

As a team member of the San Diego Depot Factory, a Machinist is responsible for managing and executing detailed, machined parts. We utilize horizontal and vertical mills, lathes, and other equipment in our shop. Our team often works on next-generation products that have the potential to be differentiators for our customers. This fast-paced factory is not a classic production machine shop as the work we do is anything but typical. A successful candidate will be working on projects varying from fabricating vital components for a critical production line, repair work to get essential equipment operational, or collaborating with design engineers to create a next-generation prototype. This high-speed environment requires attention to detail, ability to work with a highly skilled and diverse team, and opportunity to grow your skillset by not doing the same thing day after day. The San Diego Depot Factory's reputation is built on our ability to execute challenging projects to meet customer schedules.

The successful candidate will join a small, highly skilled team directly supporting the warfighter mission. This position follows a 9/80 work schedule.

What You Will Do

  • Perform advanced machining operations on mills, lathes, and other shop equipment, independently determining methods and sequencing for daily work and new assignments

  • Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures based on practical knowledge, including when formal engineering drawings are not available

  • Collaborate with design engineers to bring prototypes from concept to finished part and execute repair machining to restore essential production equipment

  • Evaluate and verify part quality using established inspection controls and measurement tools while adhering to all safety standards, company policies, and industrial regulations

  • Contribute to the development of machining techniques and best practices in a high-mix environment where priorities shift daily

  • Review mechanical setup and execute production cycles on mill, shear, press brake, bandsaw, lathe, and CNC machines

  • Program and operate CNC equipment, including automated lathes, grinders, and milling machines

  • Design, fabricate, and modify custom tools, jigs, and fixtures based on hands-on experience and practical problem-solving—without reliance on formal engineering drawings—to address production challenges and improve workflow

  • Control and optimize machine settings to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes

  • Operate and inspect machinery across multiple areas, conducting quality inspections in accordance with mechanical standards

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Must have the ability to lift 28 lbs.

This is a 1st shift, onsite position.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with CNC programming

  • Experience performing manual inspections using classic manual inspection gages

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawings

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • An AAS in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent technical education

  • Experience in the use of Virtual Gibbs for programming 2, 3, 4, and 5 axis machines

  • Experience in the use of Pro

E and Common PDM for retrieving CAD models:

  • Experience using Renishaw probes and macros for machine setup and tool compensation

  • Experience with planning and building holding fixtures for hog-outs and castings

  • Experience in correct selection of cutting tools, feeds, and speeds for machining of aluminum and various stainless steels

  • Experience with Brown & Sharpe and Micro height inspection tools

  • Experience editing for Fanuc controls and working with Gibbs Cam, Master Cam, Solid Works, or similar programming software

  • Experience planning, programming, machining, deburring, and inspecting parts in a rapid response environment
