Position Overview

This position is part of the Enterprise Services – Data & AI organization within RTX Corporate, supporting the company's mission to develop and scale AI capabilities responsibly and securely across the enterprise. The Applied AI Engineer designs and builds AI-enabled applications that enhance productivity and decision-making across RTX. This hands-on role focuses on developing reusable components, autonomous workflows, and multi-agent patterns that demonstrate measurable business value from modern AI technologies.

What You Will Do

  • Build and deploy AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs) and agentic reasoning frameworks to perform complex, multi-step tasks
  • Design and implement context-aware orchestration, tool-use, and memory mechanisms that allow AI systems to operate autonomously within defined boundaries
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to prototype AI copilots and digital assistants that augment human workflows in engineering, sustainment, and operations
  • Develop reusable SDKs, documentation, and internal demos to accelerate adoption of AI capabilities
  • Partner with platform and MLOps teams to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and governed

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Python & TypeScript for AI apps; LLM frameworks (Lang Chain, Auto Gen, Semantic Kernel)
  • Agentic AI concepts; vector search (Pinecone, FAISS, Azure AI Search)
  • Cloud AI services & APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure AI, Bedrock)

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying agents for business use cases (e.g., workflow orchestration, data transformation or analysis, multi-agent system)
  • Understanding of prompt engineering, contextual retrieval, and self-reflective agent design
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns and secure API development
  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Work Location

This is a hybrid role. Eligible candidates must reside within commuting distance from Farmington, CT. Additional locations will be considered: MA, TX, IA, CA.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $101,000 USD - $203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.

Additional Information
