About the Role

Collins Aerospace is seeking qualified candidates for an experienced software engineer to join our development team for Flight Management Application content for Fixed Wing aircraft within our Military Avionics Flight Management Applications department, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The engineer that fills this role will initially work primarily on our E-2D platform.

What You Will Do

  • Develop software for fixed winged platforms as a member of the Flight Management Applications engineering team
  • Implement and verify updates to the Flight Management software for E-2D avionics
  • Communicate plans and status on your assigned stories to your agile team members, internal stakeholders, and external customers
  • Coordinate with the platform engineering team and other software domain teams to identify and track dependencies for shared features
  • Champion knowledge sharing, elevating department expertise through both formal training and informal mentoring

  • Expand your impact on the field of avionics, contributing to software solutions that increase the operational capabilities of aircraft worldwide

Required Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience in the design and development of deliverable software, ideally within a production or consumer-facing environment
  • Familiarity with avionics data buses and protocols, including Arinc-429, Arinc-661, and MIL-STD-1553
  • Experience with embedded real-time software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DO-178 or similar certification-based development processes
  • Familiarity with Python scripting
  • Experience in developing avionics displays and/or Flight Management Systems (FMS)
  • AGILE development methodology experience
  • Ada or C/C++ Experience
  • Experience with different levels of software testing, from unit-level through system integration
  • Strong foundation in communication skills and team collaboration

Compensation and Benefits Details

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
