About Pratt & Whitney

Pratt & Whitney is working to once again transform the future of flight—designing, building and servicing engines unlike any the world has ever seen. And because transformation begins from within, we're seeking the people to drive it. So, calling all curious. About the Role

In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We've introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect a wide range of complex new and altered fixtures and gages for conformance to specifications
  • Work from complicated tool and part drawings, sample parts, established quality procedures, and general instructions to plan operations, set up work, and select methods to perform inspection functions
  • Use algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions to calculate dimensions, convert between angular and linear dimensions, and make other computations required to set up and inspect
  • Inspect gages, fixtures, and test equipment, using rotary tables and other precision measuring instruments required to perform close tolerance inspection operations involving complex angular locations and/or relationship of several diameters or surfaces and concentricity's
  • Plan sequence of inspection operations and position items with most suitable and adaptable holding devices to check the most dimensions with a minimum of setups and repositioning
  • Assist with the tryout of new gages on parts, and in determination of wear dimensions, marking drawings accordingly, and establishing history folders
  • Perform other related work of a comparable or lower skill level as required to support gage standards and inspection operations

Work Environment

Physical Demand: Overall light physical effort required, with majority of time spent planning work, reading drawings and schematics, making mathematical calculations, and manipulating measuring instruments, with balance of time spent handling and positioning parts of relatively light weight and handling heavier parts with mechanical and manual assistance.

Mental and Visual Demand: Concentrated mental and visual attention required for extended periods to analyze requirements, plan sequence of operations, interpret drawings, make mathematical computations, layout work, and inspect tools and gages.

Working Conditions: Exposed to some oil and dirt on hands and clothes when handling gages, fixtures, and inspection equipment and intermittent exposure to usual shop conditions when performing inspection, calibration, and repair functions in shop areas.

Initiative and Ingenuity: Under direction of supervisor, plan sequence of operations to inspect complex new and altered gages, fixtures, and test equipment for conformance to specifications. Exercise judgement and initiative to determine sequence of operations, setups, and methods required to inspect gages, fixtures, and equipment. Exercise judgment to assure items comply with permissible standards. Make somewhat difficult decisions to choose a course of action in checking and accepting items.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Well-rounded knowledge of inspection methods and practices
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated drawings
  • Application of shop mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to inspect gages, fixtures, and equipment
