About the role:

With Roblox’s daily active users growing at a record pace, we are seeking a senior data engineer to help build the next generation of Ad Data and ML feature infrastructure. Our team sits at the core of advertising systems at Roblox, powering high-scale, high-throughput data systems that shape ads personalization, ranking, and measurement. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will architect and build foundational data pipelines, real-time streaming systems, and scalable feature computation frameworks. Your work will enable rapid experimentation, empower ranking models, and support personalized ad delivery at massive scale. You will collaborate closely with engineers across ML, backend, and analytics to shape the future of ads data infrastructure at Roblox. This role is a great fit for you if you are proficient in managing large scale systems and data-driven applications and have a zeal for developing inspiring, easily maintainable, and reusable code. You Will:

• Build high-performance data pipelines and real-time streaming systems that support both online and offline ML features, training data and statistical computation at scale.

• Design and scale robust data infrastructure for powering retrieval and ranking of various ads systems across Roblox

• Ensure data systems are reliable, observable, privacy-compliant, and performant under heavy concurrency and high throughput.

• Partner with ML and backend engineers to define scalable interfaces and enable rapid iteration for model development and experimentation.

• Partner with our Data Platform and Data Infra teams to build our high quality data processing workflows.

• Contribute to internal platforms and tools that abstract complexity, improve developer productivity, and accelerate innovation.

• Be a tech lead and mentor junior engineers

• Self-organize and take ownership of projects throughout their full lifecycle.

You Have:

• 7+ years of work experience building production-grade, scalable, and reliable data systems

• Solid programming skills in languages such as Python and strong knowledge of SQL

• Strong expertise in developing large-scale data pipelines (batch and streaming) and big-data processing technologies such as Spark, Apache Druid, Flink, Ray, Kubeflow, etc

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills; enjoy building systems that enable and accelerate team productivity

• Data-driven focus for quality metrics and monitoring

• Approach data as a product—prioritizing quality, discoverability, and reusability

• B.S. equivalent in CS or sufficient experience.

Nice to Have:

• Knowledge about advertising and the technology which powers it is preferred

• Experience building data pipelines at TB+ scale.

• Experience leveraging AI tooling to build simplified, human-centric experiences for internal customers.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range**$242,100—$293,800 USD**
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
