Role Summary Design and develop electrical circuits and converters for Rivian’s off-board charging products.
These include the Rivian Adventure Network DC fast charger, level 2 AC charger, and other state-of-the-art products.
This position will sit out of our Torrance, CA, location and report to the Sr.
Director, Electrical Design.
Responsibilities The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the development of high-power electrical circuits, such as active rectifiers, inverters, and DCDC converters Circuit design, component selection, schematic creation, PCBA layout, and magnetic design Perform trade studies for key decisions Simulate circuits using Matlab, PLECS, and other tools Analyze structures and magnetic components such as bus bars and high-frequency transformers/inductors EMI/EMC filter design Interact with suppliers on critical components Test prototype power electronics circuits in lab Characterize power semiconductor devices, including Silicon, SiC, and GaN Engage with multiple cross-functional teams, including Mechanical, Software and Controls, Systems, Test, Quality, Reliability, and Manufacturing.
Qualifications Minimum M.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 3+ years of relevant industry experience, specializing in power electronics Familiarity with common topologies such as multi-phase boost PFC, dual active bridge converter, LLC, etc Expertise in high-power EV charger or energy storage, stationary-related power converters preferred Solid understanding of power semiconductor switches and diodes, and their characteristics Strong experience designing and analyzing inverter and converter circuits, including gate drivers Familiarity with embedded control of power electronic circuits Power converters and grid tie control PWM methods
Experience: with bidirectional AC/DC or DC/DC power conversion
Experience: using software tools such as Spice, PLECS, Mathcad, Ansys, and Matlab
Experience: using FEA simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell/Q3D or equivalent PCB layout using Altium Exposure to EMC requirements and safety certification Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment Pay Disclosure
Salary: Range California-Based Applicants: $121,500 – $151,900 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26.
Coverage is adequate on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
