Overview

Please provide a portfolio (PDF or digital/website) that demonstrates relevant experience in visual merchandising, training development, and in-store execution. The portfolio should include examples of:

  • Primary: Apparel merchandising and styling (including mannequin and in-store presentation)
  • Secondary: Hardgoods examples ideal but not critical; homeware/grocery also acceptable if other hardgoods are not available
  • Training materials or tools created for retail employees (guides, decks, resources)
  • Execution of store openings, remodels, or large-scale visual projects
  • Ability to translate concepts into clear, actionable, store-facing direction

The Visual Program Specialist, Training & Execution plays a critical role in bringing REI’s visual merchandising strategy to life across our entire store fleet. This role connects field experience, operational insight, and visual standards to ensure consistent, high-quality execution—while strengthening the learning experience for store teams.

You’ll lead in-store execution for new store openings, relocations, remodels, and large-scale visual projects, overseeing planning, staffing, tools, training, and on-site delivery. In parallel, you’ll help shape the way visual merchandising is taught and supported in stores—developing training content and providing hands-on coaching through in‑person, hybrid, and virtual channels.

This position partners closely with Visual Merchandising, Store Operations, and Physical Place teams to ensure visual strategies are practical, durable, and executable in real-world store environments.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Lead In‑Store Execution

  • Lead visual execution for new store openings, relocations, remodels, and large‑scale projects from planning through installation and post‑set evaluation.

  • Translate creative visual direction into functional, guest‑ready store environments through on‑site and hybrid installs.

  • Select, train, and lead field install teams to ensure consistent execution standards and operational readiness.

  • Partner closely with Visual Merchandising, Physical Place, and Store Operations to ensure store readiness, plan accuracy, and sustainable post‑install practices.

Training & Development:

  • Shape and evolve in‑store visual training programs grounded in real‑world execution and employee learning needs.

  • Partner cross‑functionally to design and deliver training that supports skill development and leadership readiness.

Store Support & Coaching:

  • Provide visual support across the fleet through Waypoint, Teams, virtual tools, and in‑person engagement.

  • Interpret visual programs and floorset guidance, offering clear direction and store‑specific solutions.

  • Develop and maintain tools and resources that enable store teams to execute visual standards with clarity and confidence.

Qualifications:

  • 4 + years of multi‑unit visual merchandising experience, including new store openings, remodels, or large‑scale visual projects
  • Strong ability to balance creative vision with operational execution and business priorities
  • Experience delivering training that improves execution quality and drives measurable results
  • Working knowledge of space planning, visual standards, and store‑level execution
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, delegation, measurement, and follow‑through
  • Ability to lead and influence field teams and cross‑functional partners without direct authority
  • Proficiency with standard business tools including Abode Suite, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally up to approximately 80% of the time
