About the Role

Have a passion for problem solving and want to shape the future of Avionics? This position is for Senior Software Engineer to join the Autonomy team in the Aerospace Technologies – Applied Research and Technology department. This group supports the Avionics Strategic Business Unit in researching, maturing, and transitioning technologies that enable advanced capabilities and operations in both commercial and military aviation spaces. Areas of near-term focus include prototyping autonomous software solutions for Lab and Aircraft Integration.

As an Aircraft Autonomy Software Engineer, you will be part of a highly motivated and extremely innovative team supporting the development of rapid prototypes and proof of concepts for internal and external demonstrations and testing. This is a unique position where every day will be a little bit different with new challenges and problems to be solved. This will allow you to use your diverse set of skills and push you to continually learn new ones. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Software Engineering and Integration, a background in avionics, and a passion for developing new solutions.

This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across domains
  • Design, implement and document new software solutions for Autonomous capabilities
  • Integrate, test, and debug software solutions in a Lab and Aircraft environment
  • Track, investigate, and report status of development and testing efforts
  • Provide engineering estimates and bids
  • Mentor less experienced Engineers in proper software engineering practices
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence in technical execution
  • Work independently or within a team
  • Use strong innovation and problem-solving abilities to move projects forward

Education & Experience Required

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive background in Software Engineering
  • Experience in requirements definition, design, and decomposition
  • Avionics development experience
  • Experience in Agile Application Development & Scrum methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proline Fusion or EDU experience
  • Aircraft Integration and Test experience
  • ROS / ROS 2 experience
  • Experience with the development and coding algorithms, test vectors and data analysis
  • Experience working with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience with the software development process using Agile Methodologies and tooling, including JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Aircraft certification experience
  • Familiarity with Technology Readiness Levels
  • Flight Operations or Pilot experience

Compensation

Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $164,000 USD

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

Work Arrangement

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
