What if you could be the go-to expert solving the toughest engineering challenges that keep aerospace systems running around the world? As an Expert-On-Call (EOC) Engineer within Collins Aerospace’s Avionics Test Engineering organization, you will play a critical role in troubleshooting, optimizing, and sustaining advanced manufacturing test systems that support both commercial airlines and defense customers globally.
You will work across a diverse mix of modern and legacy hardware and software systems, partnering with engineers and leaders across global sites to ensure test solutions meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and quality. In this highly visible role, you’ll not only solve complex technical problems—you’ll also mentor others, influence engineering best practices, and help shape the future of avionics test solutions.
If you thrive in hands-on engineering environments, enjoy tackling complex problems, and want exposure to cutting-edge aerospace systems, this role offers a unique opportunity to grow your technical expertise and expand your impact.
What You Will Do:
- Hands-on troubleshooting and support for automated test systems used in production facilities, service centers, and customer environments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain software solutions using tools such as C#/.NET, NI Test Stand, NI LabVIEW, and legacy platforms, improving functionality and reliability of test systems.
- Design and update electrical hardware solutions, including circuit card assemblies, cables, test adapters, and test stations to support evolving product and test requirements.
- Diagnose complex technical issues and implement corrective actions, applying structured problem-solving techniques to improve system performance and prevent recurrence.
- Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation for proprietary systems, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams and stakeholders to deploy, improve, and sustain test solutions across multiple locations.
- Mentor and support early-career engineers, sharing technical expertise and helping build a stronger, more capable engineering team.
What You Will Learn:
- How global aerospace organizations design, deploy, and sustain advanced manufacturing test systems supporting both commercial and defense applications.
- How to troubleshoot and optimize complex, integrated hardware and software systems across modern and legacy platforms.
- How to expand your influence through cross-functional collaboration, mentorship, and technical leadership opportunities.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
- 2+ years of experience designing or supporting electrical assemblies.
- 2+ years of experience writing or modifying software source code.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with automated test systems, test stations, or manufacturing test environments.
- Familiarity with C#/.NET, NI Test Stand, NI LabVIEW, or similar tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges and deliver effective solutions.
