Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Principal Engineer, Lubrication Systems, to support our Commercial Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems team within the Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Engineering organization.

What You Will Do:

  • Analyze and Develop Oil System Characteristics: Conduct detailed analyses and develop functional characteristics of the oil system in high-complexity environments, ensuring system performance meets or exceeds established engineering benchmarks by project deadlines.
  • Utilize Advanced Tools for Testing and Analysis: Deploy state-of-the-art systems analysis tools, perform component testing in rigs, and execute and analyze results from full-scale engine testing to validate system designs within the designated project schedule. Utilize 1D flow modeling to analyze and design gas turbine lubrication and thermal management systems, use field data to monitor fleet health, support customers, and specify engine validation test plans, reviewing engine and test rig data, and matching analytical models to engine data
  • Contribute to Integrated Product Teams (IPTs): Actively participate as a lubrication and thermal management system discipline member in module-level IPTs, while providing key contributions to the engine-level systems IPT chaired by the chief engineer, ensuring alignment with program objectives.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Interface with engine mechanical systems, air systems, and performance teams to ensure seamless integration of oil system designs across disciplines while meeting technical performance goals.
  • Advance Cutting-Edge Design and Analysis: Apply innovative systems design and analysis methods to address complex challenges, delivering impactful technical contributions within the project timelines while expanding expertise across the entire engine system.
  • Optimizing oil system architecture to ensure safety of flight, provide adequate cooling and lubrication oil flow and pressure to mechanical components, Oil conditioning – includes storage, deaeration/deoiling, filtration, and filter life, minimization of oil degradation, and cooling, and contain oil within system boundaries.
  • Travel Requirement: 10% (Domestic).

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience. Relevant experience in Engineering.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills by completing and documenting projects through formal publications, detailed reports, and engaging oral briefings, ensuring clarity and impact in project deliverables.
  • Successfully mentor and delegate tasks to junior team members, providing constructive feedback and oversight to enhance team performance and project outcomes within set timelines.
  • Lead technical and professional teams by fostering collaboration, demonstrating strong leadership capabilities, and delivering measurable results in achieving project objectives.
  • Apply knowledge of lubrication system design and fleet support to develop innovative solutions, leveraging experience with modern gas turbine industry tools such as Dymola and Easy5 to enhance system analysis and design.
  • Independently manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery while maintaining a positive attitude and fostering strong relationships with team members and stakeholders.

  • Mechanical Systems, Externals, & Nacelles (MSEN): The MSEN Engineering organization is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartment and rotor support design and analysis, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging and architecture, as well as nacelles for commercial and military engine models. Technical disciplines include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, System Modeling, Mechanical Design analysis for bearings, gears, and seals, and fluid-thermal modeling of associated components and systems.

What is my role type?

In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We’ve introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:-Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
