General Summary:

Qualcomm's Multimedia R&D and Standards Group is seeking candidates for the position of Data Compression Research Engineer with a focus on compression algorithms for neural network and multimedia systems. You will join a world-renowned team of experts who develop algorithms, hardware architectures, and systems for video and data compression. You will participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of state-of-the-art real-time ultra-low latency hardware data compression codecs and will work with hardware and software SOC teams to further optimize developed solutions based on feedback from internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will be a highly self-directed individual with strong creative and analytic skills, and a passion for machine learning and compression technologies.

We are considering candidates with various levels of experience.

Responsibilities:

· Contribute to the conception, development, implementation, and optimization of new algorithms delivering improved compression, both lossy and lossless, for various data sources and formats.

· Manage design trade-offs between compression performance and hardware complexity.

· Participate in the design and implementation of the next generation of Snapdragon solutions.

· Collaborate with global technology teams to collect and understand compression needs to define codec tool requirements.

Ideal candidate would have the skills/experience below:

  • Industry or academic experience required in one or more of the following areas: digital signal processing, image/video processing, image/video compression or information theory.

  • Knowledge of computer architecture and hardware design. Knowledge of quantitatively assessing hardware implementation requirements of algorithms preferred.

  • Record of innovation: publications or granted patents in the areas of data compression, including video and image coding, digital signal processing, or information theory.

  • Proficiency in programming and debugging using C/C++, Python, and MATLAB.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, great work ethic, and ability to work in a team environment to accomplish common goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or similar fields.

  • 1+ years of experience with programming language such as C, C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience. OR
    Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related field and 1+ year of Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
    OR
    PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related field.
