Job Overview:

The Staff Engineer will be responsible for driving improvements in key quality metrics for Qualcomm products. This role requires a deep understanding of SoC test flows, advanced data analysis, and the ability to identify and address gaps in testing based on internal results and customer returns. The engineer will analyze complex datasets, leverage automation and machine learning to detect failure trends, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine root causes and implement effective solutions. Strong technical expertise in SoC system architecture, ARM architecture, Android platform, software automation, and building systems is essential. The position involves developing automated, system-level hardware-centric tests using Python and Android applications, enhancing internal test coverage, and working closely with software teams to evaluate integrated system performance under varying conditions (voltage, process, thermal). Additional responsibilities include automating redundant manual tasks to improve efficiency, providing clear and timely status updates to management, and mentoring team members to promote best practices. This role requires frequent interaction with global teams in the US and India, excellent communication and teamwork skills, effective time management, and the flexibility to adapt quickly to dynamic project and team’s needs. People management experience will be a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Deep understanding of complex SoC system testing flows, automation frameworks, and system-level debugging of intricate issues. Strong knowledge of SoC hardware architecture, clock/voltage relationships, and SoC IPs.
• Expertise in software automation and build systems, with solid understanding of Android architecture.
• Basic understanding of ARM architecture and fundamental familiarity with ml models and quantization for edge inferencing
• Hands-on experience in characterizing SoC performance across processors, graphics, memory, thermal, and power domains.
• Proven ability to develop and execute test cases for Android-based devices.
• Skilled in analyzing specifications, creating comprehensive test plans, and executing tests effectively.
• Thorough knowledge of Android architecture, including boot process, kernel, core BSP, and performance optimization.
• Advanced debugging and triaging experience using Android debugging tools and JTAG Lauterbach/Trace32.
• Root Cause Analysis - from SW, SoC subsystems, to Hardware defects
• Ability to coordinate and drive failure analysis, leveraging technical expertise to identify and implement solutions.
• Experience in developing automated reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate progress to stakeholders.
• Proficient in tracking customer returns, performing root cause analysis, resolving issues, and maintaining detailed test logs.
• Strong programming skills in C#, .NET, Java, C/C++, Visual Basic, Perl, Python, for test development and debugging.
• Familiarity with source control tools such as Perforce, Git, or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of USB protocol, CPU, DSP, GPU, DDR is a plus.
• Ability to work with lab instruments including power supplies, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, Nexus memory analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• Proficient in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
• Capable of capturing lessons learned and applying them to future projects.
• Provide regular, clear updates to stakeholders throughout project execution.
• Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and collaboration abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with accountability and ownership.

Preferred qualification:

• Overall, 10 years or more of engineering experience in semiconductor domain.
• Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience. OR
  Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
  OR
  PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
