As an Intern on the Machine Learning Systems Team, you will collaborate with software and hardware performance architecture teams to enhance ML compilers for Qualcomm chips. The team works directly on production compilers targeting Qualcomm’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and shipping in the Qualcomm AI Runtime SDK backend. The team also develops and utilizes performance-driven simulation tools to analyze and design ML firmware, software, and hardware. This role offers a unique opportunity to strengthen both software and hardware skill sets, and offers the opportunity to get exposure and work with the latest SOTA ML models on the cutting edge of AI, including Llama, QWEN, Deep Seek, GPT-OSS, etc.

Key Responsibilities:
- Neural Network Compilation: Compile neural networks to Qualcomm hardware, analyze performance, and prototype algorithms to improve compilers and/or hardware.
- Simulation Modeling: Develop simulation models using Python, C, and C++ to evaluate or project neural network performance on Qualcomm hardware.
- Performance Analysis: Run, debug, and analyze performance simulations. Recommend software and/or hardware enhancements to address bottlenecks in computing and memory hierarchy.
- Compiler Optimization: Improve Qualcomm’s compiler stack to ensure ML/AI models run faster and more efficiently on AI accelerators.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Python or C++
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and debugging skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of Python and/or C/C++
- Familiarity with object-oriented design principles
- Experience with software processes and remote machine development (e.g., git, CI/CD, remote workflow via SSH, Unix tools, clang, MSVC)
- Background in one or more of the following:Machine learning APIs (Py Torch, ONNX, Tensorflow, etc.)
- Convolutional neural networks
- Large language models (LLMs)
- AI accelerator architecture
- Knowledge of computer architecture, digital circuits and event-driven transactional models/simulators
- Experience with algorithms and data structures
Education Requirements:
- In study towards a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Engineering Physics or related field
- Eligible candidates must have a graduation date in December 2027 or later, including May or June 2028.
- For 16-month internships: must be available May 2026 - August 2027

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$28.00 - $53.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
