Manager, Japan Compliance
ROLE SUMMARY
-
This position: Manager, Japan Compliance is responsible for: (i) supporting overseeing the implementation of Pfizer’s compliance program designed to prevent and detect systemic compliance issues in the market and cluster in alignment with the Country Compliance Lead (“CCL”); and (ii) leading and supporting key proactive and strategic initiatives to assess and mitigate global risks across the markets.

Support the CCL in delivering risk‑based commercial compliance and ethics oversight for the Japan market and related regional cluster (group of markets overseen together).
-
Act as a key compliance partner to Commercial, Medical, and enabling functions (e.g., Finance, People Experience, Digital) by enabling business execution while supporting effective identification and management of compliance, ethics, third‑party, and emerging technology risks across Japan market and Cluster.

Support driving evolution of the market compliance program toward scalable, data and technology enabled risk identification, monitoring, and advisory models, aligned with global compliance initiatives, and local practices aligned with Japan regulatory expectations.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will
Risk Management & Governance Support
-
Support to establish and reinforce clear risk decision frameworks, enabling empowered, well documented business decision making while maintaining appropriate compliance oversight and escalation pathways.

Support Japan market risk identification, prioritization, and mitigation activities using Pfizer’s global risk management frameworks.
-
Contribute to the operation of governance forums (e.g., risk committees), including preparation, tracking, and follow‑up of agreed mitigation actions.
-
Support clear documentation of risk ownership and mitigation status, with accountability retained by the business.
Business Partnership & Advisory Support
-
Partner with Commercial, Medical, and enabling functions to identify and assess compliance risks arising from business activities, partnerships, and evolving operating models.

Provide practical, risk‑based guidance to support business decision‑making, escalating complex or high‑risk matters as appropriate.

Support business adoption of partnership, alliance, and third‑party models by applying proportionate compliance risk considerations.
Third‑Party Risk Management
-
Support end‑to‑end third‑party risk management activities, including evaluation, onboarding, oversight, and renewal or exit considerations.
-
Apply risk‑ and materiality‑based approaches to help focus attention on higher‑risk partners, activities, and products.

Assist in monitoring mitigation progress and surfacing insights from audits, monitoring, or issues.
Data, AI, and Scalable Risk Practices
-
Support CCL in strategic oversight for emerging technology, digital, data, and AI‑related compliance risks, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory and ethical expectations.
-
Support the integration of data‑ and AI‑enabled approaches into compliance risk assessment, monitoring, and advisory activities.
-
Contribute to the development and use of scalable advisory tools, self‑support guidance, and standard decision frameworks, consistent with Empowered Risk Decision Making (clear risk ownership and documented business decisions).
Culture, Speak‑Up, and Capability Building
-
Strengthen speak‑up and compliance culture through structured engagement mechanisms, including Compliance Champions (business‑based compliance representatives), feedback loops, and thematic analysis of concerns and trends.

Support compliance culture and speak‑up initiatives by partnering with business stakeholders and the Compliance Champion Network.
-
Contribute to awareness and adoption of compliance expectations through targeted communication and engagement, including the ability to design and deliver clear, practical, and risk‑relevant training or briefing sessions that resonate with business audiences.
Incident & Remediation Support
-
Support global-led investigations and remediation activities by providing local context, documentation, and tracking, without assuming ownership of outcomes.

Assist in monitoring remediation progress and identifying themes or improvement opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONSBasic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree required (e.g., Law, Business, Compliance, Risk Management).
-
Approximately 3–5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, legal, or regulated commercial environments.
-
Foundational understanding of life sciences / healthcare compliance risks.
-
Business‑level fluency in Japanese and English.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience supporting compliance activities in a global or matrix organization.
-
Exposure to third‑party risk management, partnerships, or commercial operations.
-
Ability to assess data, digital, or AI‑related risks at a practical, business‑impact level.
-
Strong analytical skills and ability to translate risk considerations into clear, actionable guidance.
