Position Summary:

The Geospatial Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the geospatial team in various tasks related to spatial data analytics, mapping, and GIS (Geographic Information System) activities. The primary purpose of this role is to provide the intern with hands-on experience and exposure to the field of geospatial technology while contributing to the successful execution of geospatial projects within the organization. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals to gain practical skills, apply theoretical knowledge, and contribute to the overall success of geospatial initiatives.

Major Responsibilities:

Spatial Analysis and Mapping

• Assist in spatial data analysis performing tasks such as geoprocessing, spatial querying, and data manipulation.

• Contribute to the creation of high-quality maps and visualizations in ESRI for various projects.

Dashboard Design and Implementation

• Create interactive and dynamic ArcGIS Dashboards to provide real-time insights into geospatial data.

• Work closely with end-users to understand their requirements and design dashboards that facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Story Map Creation

• Develop compelling and informative ArcGIS Story Maps to effectively communicate geospatial information and narratives.

• Collaborate with different departments to understand their data visualization needs and translate them into engaging Story Maps.

Qualifications for Internal Candidates:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Data Science, GIS Data Science, or Business Analytics required

• Master's Degree in a quantitative graduate program preferred

• Currently pursuing a graduate degree or bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial, Engineering, Computer Science with exposure to ESRI platform, QGIS or Open Street Maps (OSM)

• 1 year of experience using ESRI or QGIS or OSM platform in academic projects or previous work

• Understanding of geographic information systems (GIS) principles and concepts

• Familiarity with spatial data formats, projections, and coordinate systems

• Hands-on experience with ArcGIS Story Maps for creating interactive and engaging spatial narratives

• Proficient in designing and implementing ArcGIS Dashboards for dynamic data visualization

• Competence in spatial data analysis, mapping, and visualization with ArcGIS Pro

• Able to work independently and within a team

• Able to manage a cross-functional team toward a shared objective

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; good presentation skills

• Personal influencing skills

• Good time management and organizational skills

• Supervisory, coaching and teaching skills

• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
