Role summary

We are looking for an experienced and execution-driven leader to join the Checkout business line as Director of Risk. This role owns the hands-on execution of risk management across the merchant lifecycle: onboarding, underwriting, fraud prevention, credit risk, and continuous monitoring.

You will roll up your sleeves to lead global teams, drive scalable controls, implement modern AI-enabled tools, and ensure our merchant experience remains best-in-class while supporting rapid growth. The role partners closely with the Commercial, Product, and Compliance teams, acting as a business-oriented risk leader who removes friction, mitigates exposure, and accelerates safe growth.

What you’ll do

• Lead & Inspire: Manage and develop a global team of risk specialists, fostering accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

• Risk Execution & Underwriting: Own day-to-day execution of underwriting, fraud prevention, credit risk reviews, and merchant monitoring. Provide expert guidance on complex onboarding cases and high-risk opportunities.

• AI-Enabled, Data-Driven Risk Management: Leverage AI tools, fraud tools, and analytics to enhance decision-making and scalability.

• Results Driven: Develop and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and performance signals to inform action.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Commercial, and Compliance teams to implement risk requirements and improve merchant experience.

• Scale for Growth: Build execution frameworks that support global scaling while maintaining consistent risk standards.

.Who you are

• 8–10+ years in risk management (underwriting, fraud, credit) within payments, acquiring, or PSPs.

• Experience leading risk execution in high-growth, multi-market environments.

• Proven experience managing global teams (5+ FTE).

• Deep understanding of merchant acquiring, payment flows, and risk frameworks.

• Experience with complex merchant underwriting and high-risk deal structures.

• Strong analytical mindset; comfortable with data models, dashboards, AI tools, and automation platforms.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
