About the role

As a Facilities Operations Technician II – Mechanical, you will support the reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance of mission-critical mechanical and HVAC systems within hyperscale data centers. This role is ideal for technicians transitioning from HVAC, industrial, commercial facilities, or building operations environments into data center operations. You will build foundational knowledge while contributing to system reliability, supporting troubleshooting efforts, and learning how standards and upgrades protect uptime.

US: Hiring Range in USD from $27.07 to $54.13 per hour; from: $56,300 to $112,600 per annum.

Eligibility and Location Requirements

This position requires U.S. citizenship and is located onsite in Saline, Michigan. Relocation assistance may be available in accordance with Oracle's relocation policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the review and improvement of mechanical and HVAC system designs for high-availability environments, including chilled water, DX, airside systems, and redundancy strategies.

  • Assist with troubleshooting activities, incident investigations, and root cause analysis for mechanical or HVAC equipment and system issues.

  • Support upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, including participation in design reviews, commissioning activities, and operational acceptance processes.

  • Partner with site operations teams to improve maintainability, safe execution of work, and documentation quality for mechanical and HVAC systems.

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including vendors and service providers, while building familiarity with applicable guidance and standards.

  • Review and follow technical documentation to support consistent execution of maintenance and operational tasks across sites.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Background in HVAC, mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, building operations, or critical facility operations; data center experience is not required.

  • Hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, field service, mechanical plant operations, or technical operations environments.

  • Basic understanding of HVAC or mechanical systems and a willingness to learn critical cooling infrastructure.

  • Technical certification, trade experience, military technical training, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong safety mindset and willingness to follow established procedures.

  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new technical concepts in a hands-on environment.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

  • Good communication and teamwork in operational settings.

Preferred Skills / Certifications

  • Exposure to chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, valves, cooling towers, heat exchangers, or mechanical plant operations.

  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings, P&IDs, sequences of operation, and equipment manuals.

  • Familiarity with BMS/controls, alarm response, refrigerant handling, lockout/tagout, and safe work practices.

  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification is directly applicable for technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of stationary refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment that could release refrigerants.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.

  • ASHRAE training is a good entry point for HVAC fundamentals; ASHRAE currently offers HVAC Design Level I training aimed at recent graduates, engineers new to HVAC, and facilities-related professionals building fundamentals.

  • Schneider Electric University offers current data center power-and-cooling learning paths and prepares learners for certifications such as the Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA), which can be useful for technicians entering the data center space.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This is a mission-critical role supporting 24/7 operations where 100% uptime is essential; as such, regular attendance and flexibility for shift-based schedules are required. To perform these duties, you must be able to frequently walk, bend, kneel, crouch, push/pull objects, and climb stairs. You will be required to lift or move up to39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for loads40 pounds or greater. Additionally, you must be capable of maintaining balance while working from a ladder or elevated platforms. These tasks are performed in an industrial environment and must be executed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, to maintain the continuous health of the facility infrastructure.
