We’re hiring a product designer to create products that are easy to use, beautiful, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. As an early team member, you’ll have a huge part in shaping our product direction and design culture.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Growth Product Designer to help shape how millions of people discover and get value from ChatGPT. You’ll design experiences that drive adoption, engagement, retention, and upgrades—balancing user needs with business goals. This role sits at the intersection of product design, experimentation, and storytelling.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

What you’ll do in this role

• Design end-to-end experiences that help people understand, trust, and return to ChatGPT.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, and content design to run experiments and ship high-impact improvements.

• Translate complex AI capabilities into clear, intuitive interfaces that lower barriers to entry.

• Use data and research to guide decisions, while knowing when to trust your instincts.

• Contribute to the evolution of OpenAI’s design systems and voice.

• Help establish our design culture and grow our team

You might thrive in this role if you

• Have a strong portfolio showing thoughtful product design, with experience in growth, onboarding, or consumer-facing products.

• Are comfortable working in fast cycles—sketching, prototyping, and testing ideas quickly.

• Are able to balance qualitative insights with quantitative data.

• Have excellent communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.

• Have a genuine curiously about AI and how it can shape new user behaviors.
