Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has opening for an Principal Software Engineer / Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The location for this opportunity is Melbourne, Florida and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support the program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule, meaning you will get every other Friday off.**The position MAY have Hybrid work available, nothing guaranteed. **

The Aeronautics Systems sector Research & Advanced Design (R&AD) is looking to grow Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) in support of designing and implementing technologies critical to the USAF Open Architecture initiatives. Our work influences the investment decisions of our senior leadership and customer program offices as well as impacting on the Air Force enterprise of acquisition programs.

Duties include deploying product updates, setting up software factory, virtual machines, containers, and orchestration. This role will have a large impact on team productivity and as such requires an understanding of the software development lifecycle and various automation tools for developing digital pipelines (CI/CD pipelines). The Principal Software Developer will support software development for use across multi-domain/multi-platform scenarios using software engineering best practices and standards and participate in the full life cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit testing, integration, formal system testing within a cluster environment, release, installation, and maintenance of clusters.

This position may be filled by either a Principal Software Engineer or a Sr. Principal Software Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.

Essential Functions:

• Java/C++ Development for Open Mission Systems (OMS) 2.3 Compliance

• Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, servers, and hardware.

• Deploy, manage, and support virtualized environments (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V, or other hypervisors)

• Implement and manage core infrastructure services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, NAS, and Active Directory)

• Set up an overall Cloud-native Software Factory

• Manage and improve container orchestration and deployment strategies

• Support programs with integration and deployment automation in a cloud enabled environment

Basic Qualifications:

• Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with5 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with3 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with1 Years experience

• Sr. Principal Software Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with**8 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with6 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with4 **Years experience​

• Experience developing software with C/C++/Python/Java

• Experience with OMS, UCI Schema, and CAL development

• Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux environments

• Experience scripting in YAML, Powershell, BASH, JSON, etc.

• Proficient with networking concepts

• Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science

• Experience integrating and debugging software on hardware

• Experience working within an Agile environment

• Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, CMake, and Eclipse, Visual Studio Code

• Proficiency working in Linux and commands

• Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
