Job Description
The Product Manager 2 for Merchandise Financial Planning plays a critical role in advancing Nordstrom's merchandise planning capabilities, supporting planners and merchants through a technology-driven transformation of how we think about financial planning at scale. As part of the Integrated Merchandising product team, you will own the roadmap for financial planning capabilities within Toolio, partnering with both the Toolio vendor and internal Nordstrom engineering teams to deliver measurable value to our merchandise financial planning community.
This role carries full end-to-end product management ownership — from sustaining and supporting the legacy planning applications and reporting that teams rely on today, through the active migration to Toolio, to defining and delivering the future-state merch financial planning ecosystem. The right candidate is equally comfortable managing day-to-day system health and user support as they are shaping a multi-phase capability roadmap. They bring deep knowledge of merchandise financial planning and retail math as the lens through which every product decision is made.
What you’ll do:
As a Product Manager 2 on the Integrated Merchandising team, you will:
- Discover, develop, launch and maintain the technology capabilities that financial planners need to complete their day to day jobs
- Develop and maintain the financial planning product roadmap within Toolio, prioritizing features based on user needs, business objectives, and organizational strategy, with moderate support. Build and maintain quarterly priorities and annual backlogs aligned to the strategic roadmap.
- Own the product management strategy and day-to-day delivery for key financial planning capabilities including OTB management, Spend Controls, and Price Type Planning — driving both near-term execution and longer-term capability evolution.
- Support legacy financial planning applications and reporting through the active migration period, ensuring continuity of service for planning users until legacy systems are fully deprecated and Toolio is the system of record.
- Translate merchandise financial planning user journeys — including OTB management, receipt flow, BOP/EOP reconciliation, plan hierarchy structures, and Spend Controls logic — into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, and process flows.
- Partner with the Toolio vendor team and internal Nordstrom engineering teams to deliver iterative value against the roadmap, managing dependencies and sequencing with attention to technical and operational constraints.
- Define and monitor success metrics, including OKRs and KPIs, contributing to a measurement framework that reflects both delivery health and business outcomes.
- Frame tradeoff decisions clearly and facilitate alignment across squad and stakeholder boundaries without support, escalating when appropriate.
- Contribute to a product vision that aligns to the broader Integrated Merchandising domain strategy, evangelizing the roadmap with your squad and key stakeholders.
- Conduct user research with planners and merchants to develop a deep understanding of how financial planning tools are used in practice, and share findings to inform prioritization.
- Understand and evaluate market trends in merchandise planning technology, including AI/ML-driven planning capabilities, and incorporate relevant insights into roadmap thinking.
- Support go-to-market activities including UAT coordination, communication plans, change management, and post-launch validation.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate product work — including synthesizing user research, drafting requirements documentation, exploring scenario planning, and identifying patterns in user feedback — and bring a point of view on where AI-assisted capabilities can reduce planner burden within the product itself.
- Serve as a key point of contact for financial planning stakeholders, providing regular updates, gathering structured feedback, and maintaining trust through clear, consistent communication.
- Support system health across both legacy and Toolio environments by triaging incidents, driving maintenance initiatives, and ensuring platform stability throughout the migration.
What we’re looking for:
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Retail & Domain Experience (Required): 3+ years of experience in retail, with direct exposure to merchandise financial planning. You understand how plans are built, how they cascade, and what breaks when they don't reconcile.
- Retail Math Fluency (Required): Working knowledge of retail math — OTB, turn, IMU, sell-through, BOP/EOP, receipt flow, and Spend Controls — is non-negotiable. You should be able to read a plan, spot an anomaly, and ask the right questions.
- Product Management Experience: 3+ years of product management or equivalent experience, ideally in enterprise or internal-tools software. Experience working with SaaS vendors alongside internal engineering teams is a strong plus.
- Toolio or MFP Tool Familiarity: Prior experience with Toolio, Oracle MFP, Blue Yonder or comparable merchandise financial planning platforms is highly valued.
- AI Literacy: Comfort using AI tools as part of your daily workflow — for research synthesis, requirements drafting, communication, or analysis — and curiosity about how AI/ML can improve planning workflows for end users.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to define, measure, and analyze planning processes to identify opportunities for improvement, using data to support prioritization and recommendations.
- Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and thoroughness — particularly important in a financial planning context where data integrity and calculation logic have direct downstream business impact.
- Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of software development principles, Agile methodologies, and testing frameworks. Experience working with both internally developed and third-party software solutions, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across both.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to present to diverse audiences in a matrixed organization — including senior merchants, finance partners, and technology leadership.
- Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate cross-functionally across analytics, engineering, UX, and business teams, facilitating alignment without always having direct authority.
