At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Netflix seeks a Manager to join the Business Affairs team for Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, focused on the development and production of kids & family animated series. The candidate will be the primary legal contact for productions and take on a wide-range of responsibilities including:

  • Negotiating and drafting all manner of agreements for original kids & family animated series including above-the-line talent deals (e.g., writer, showrunner, producer, voice actor, overall/first look), complex rights deals for the acquisition of pre-existing intellectual property, and production services agreements, with a keen understanding of industry standard and deal contexts;

  • Overseeing projects throughout all stages from development through post-production and exhibition on Netflix’s global streaming service from a business and legal standpoint, with the ability to navigate complex matters that arise during the production lifecycle;

  • Collaborating closely with internal business partners (e.g., the content team) and cross-functional partners (e.g., production, finance, intellectual property, employment, labor, tax, marketing, consumer products and brand partnerships);

  • Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external parties (e.g., business affairs executives for animation partner studios and licensors, talent representatives, etc.); and

  • Serving as a strategic partner to help manage the voluminous kids & family animated series slate.

The role requires dexterity with traditional business and legal affairs issues and challenges, but also an eagerness to cover a lot more ground than a conventional business and legal affairs role – of paramount importance is an ability to thrive in ambiguity as we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in animated series and embrace new and innovative deal structures that best serve our growing business. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with significant volume, managing and taking ownership of multiple projects with different Business Affairs team members, working under tight timeframes, and remaining calm, collaborative, and effective throughout. While the role supports productions primarily based in the United States and Canada (“UCAN”), experience in managing productions outside of UCAN (e.g., the UK and France) is valued.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of and familiarity with the animated series production process, and especially the business and legal affairs of animated series production. The candidate should also have an understanding of above-the-line dealmaking in live action scripted series considering the crossover of talent working on Netflix’s animated series.

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills marked by an ability to analyze business needs, and drive strategic results in the deal-making process, with a solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to cultivate internal and external relationships.

  • Willingness to innovate and engage in creative problem-solving.

  • Ability to work independently and adaptability to pivot as necessary, especially in the wake of change.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, possessing the confidence to counsel business partners in making decisions that have legal & business impacts.

  • Excellent project and time management skills.

  • Curiosity and openness to learn and apply learnings to evolve.

  • Tech-savvy individual, including proficiency with Google Suite and cloud-based document and database systems.

  • Ability to flourish in our unique company culture, reflecting our values and leadership expectations.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS, JD, and bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.

  • At least 7 years of entertainment business affairs and legal experience working at a streamer/network/studio or production company.

  • A firm grasp of all aspects of the development, production, and distribution of animated series and robust industry knowledge.
