About The Role:
In building and scaling our business in Japan, we have established a number of partnerships with key industry players including operators and consumer electronics manufacturers that help us deliver our service worldwide in a consumer-friendly way. These partnerships have been essential to accelerating Netflix’s expansion in Japan. The partnerships also play a critical role in contributing to the broader growth of the business in the market, building the groundwork for executing Netflix’s strategy for future business growth.
You will join the team in Japan and will be primarily focused on leading strategic partnerships with our local operators, global consumer electronics, and partner prospects. You will build and maintain partner relations, form the strategic roadmap for these partnerships, negotiate and execute commercial deals, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of these partnerships.
This person will have a high degree of visibility with senior leadership of Netflix management who closely are associated with the strategic partnerships we build and maintain with global consumer electronics manufacturers and large-size operators, for the success of Netflix’s business expansion strategy
Responsibilities:

You will manage relationships with operators and consumer electronics manufacturers across Japan to ensure we get the most out of these partnerships in terms of maximizing viewing for our members and winning new members in an efficient manner. You will also lead the creation of growth opportunities through collaboration closely with these partners. You will work with BD, Partner Engagement, Product, and Marketing colleagues in the US on global relationships with these partners

You will forge and manage our partnerships with telecom operators in Japan, building out the partnerships and working with colleagues in Product and Marketing to find new ways to drive Netflix membership and viewing in an efficient manner.

You will also identify opportunities and build a strategy to explore new territories where the partners operate, using Netflix’s global scale to create growth efficiently.

You will explore new relationships that can efficiently drive membership and viewing and that can be scaled across multiple territories.
The ideal candidate:

10 years minimum experience in Business Development and partnerships. This experience in a technology or media company will be a strong plus

Strong Netflix culture fit. Especially a person who values Courage, Creativity and Resilience.

Demonstrated entrepreneurial mentality with a proven ability to drive business growth in environments lacking established processes, rails, or guidelines. Not only skilled in selling but also adept at building, sustaining, and continuously improving long-term business initiatives.

Ability to thrive in ambiguity, proactively identify new opportunities, and create structure where none exists, ensuring ongoing value for both Netflix and partners.

A background in product management/development is a plus

Ability to work with cross-functional leaders

Skilled in navigating high-stakes negotiations that result in significant value creation

Passion for managing international partnerships

Experience with drafting, negotiating, and closing term sheets and contracts

Strong performer with high-level of self-organization and prioritization abilities

Proficient in both Japanese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Willingness to travel for partner and internal team meetings as needed.
