EMS Commodity Manager
About the role
Job Summary
The EMS Commodity Manager is responsible for overseeing the commercial relationship with contract manufacturers that produce our products. This role ensures strong supplier partnerships that deliver optimal performance across cost, quality, supply continuity, and technology. The EMS Commodity Manager works closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering and Operations throughout the full supplier lifecycle, from selection through end of service.
Job Responsibilities
Strategy & Market Expertise
- Develop deep expertise in the EMS, contract manufacturing, and ODM/OEM market landscape and dynamics.
- Establish sourcing strategy across relevant partners to drive long-term goals in technology development, continuity of supply, cost, quality, and sustainability.
Negotiation & Commercial Management
- Lead all aspects of commercial and contractual negotiations with suppliers, including NDAs, SOWs, and corporate agreements.
- Consolidate internal requirements, release RFPs to selected partners, and analyze responses to support commercial decision-making.
- Perform detailed assessments of supplier quote submissions with should-cost analysis.
- Implement cost reductions on prototype and series production products and services.
- Provide creative and innovative solutions to maintain the highest level of quality and cost competitiveness.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Develop and nurture executive-level relationships with contract manufacturers and ODM partners.
- Ensure that company needs across product development, NPI, supply chain planning, fulfillment, and sourcing are prioritized within partner organizations.
- Act as escalation path when contract manufacturers are not meeting production schedules, NPI, quality, or supply milestones.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with mutiple function teams to align on cross-functional objectives.
- Create communication strategies to ensure clear prioritization across multiple partners and internal teams.
- Drive total cost of ownership, time to market, supply chain performance, and compliance objectives.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Procurement, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in operations, contract manufacturing, or account management with leading EMS/ODM partners.
- Demonstrated track record of innovating and streamlining outsourced manufacturing operations in high-technology global supply chains.
- Excellent negotiation, contract management, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and active listening skills; able to manage conflicting priorities across multiple stakeholders.
- Proven ability to operate independently, set priorities, and deliver results.
- Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with AI-related productivity tools is a plus.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin.
