Position Summary
As a Reinforcement Learning Intern, you will support the Nestlé Deep Tech Center in research and prototyping around reinforcement learning (RL) and sequential decision-making, with applications in learning-based control and optimization. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to building RL pipelines, running experiments, evaluating algorithms, and integrating RL modules into ongoing projects.
The role reports directly to the Applied Machine Learning R&D Specialist, in the Artificial Intelligence group.
A Day in the Life of a Reinforcement Learning Intern
-
Building end-to-end RL pipelines (environment setup, training loops, evaluation harnesses, logging, reproducibility)
-
Prototyping and benchmarking RL approaches for control policy learning, including exploration strategies and reward design
-
Working with simulated environments and (when relevant) simulation-to-real transfer constraints to ensure methods translate beyond training setups
-
Evaluating algorithms rigorously (ablations, sensitivity analyses, generalization tests), and communicating findings to relevant stakeholders
-
Improving data/experiment workflows (dataset handling, experiment tracking, computing efficiency) to accelerate iteration cycles
-
Staying close to current research and practical advances in RL / sequential decision-making, and translating relevant ideas into applied solutions
What will make you successful
-
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Control, Engineering, or a related field
-
Foundations in reinforcement learning / sequential decision-making (MDPs, policy/value methods, offline RL or related areas are a plus)
-
Solid programming skills (Python) and familiarity with modern ML tooling (e.g., Py Torch / Tensor Flow)
-
Experimental mindset: hands-on experience with coding, data handling, debugging, etc. earned through academical or professional projects
-
Curiosity and motivation to follow research and latest advances in RL and applied ML
-
English (professional working proficiency); French is a plus
