We’ve built an inclusive, flexible, and candid culture where you’re empowered to grow, take smart risks, and be unapologetically yourself (cape optional). Whether remote or in-office, we support how you thrive best. We invest in your well-being, development, and ability to make an impact because when one Nerd levels up, we all do.

Role Summary:

The Lead Writer / Content Strategist II creates high-quality, data-informed content that helps Canadians make smarter personal finance decisions, with a focus on credit cards. This role blends editorial excellence with strategic thinking, identifying content opportunities, optimizing existing content, and developing new formats to reach audiences effectively. The position exists to strengthen Nerd Wallet Canada’s authority, improve content performance, and expand audience reach through innovative, audience-first storytelling.

You are a senior individual contributor and thought leader who combines strong editorial judgment with a strategic, audience-first mindset. You take ownership of content performance and actively identify opportunities to improve Nerd Wallet Canada’s content library and expand into new formats. You collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, data, and PR partners to ensure content is accurate, relevant, and impactful. You operate with a high degree of independence, shaping not just what stories are told, but how and where they are delivered to best serve the audience.

This role reports to the Managing Editor.

Where you can make an impact:

  • Identify content gaps and optimization opportunities using performance data and strategic priorities; pitch and produce new articles to address those gaps.

  • Research and write well-sourced, clear, and engaging content focused on Canadian personal finance topics, particularly credit cards.

  • Participate in and produce diverse content formats (e.g., articles, newsletters, social media, video) to deliver an effective, audience-first user experience.

  • Provide editing support, including backreads, copy editing, and line editing, to ensure high editorial quality across team outputs.

  • Review Canadian credit card products, collect and analyze data, and translate findings into accessible comparisons and recommendations for consumers.

  • Use analytics tools to evaluate content performance and recommend data-driven improvements to increase reach, engagement, and usefulness.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including spokespeople and subject matter experts, to contextualize economic changes and their impact on consumers.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of writing, editing, and working at a computer.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing written and data-driven content.

  • Regular participation in virtual meetings and collaboration across teams.

  • Occasional public speaking or spokesperson activities may arise.

Your experience:

  • 5+ years of editorial experience, including writing and reporting on personal finance topics; or equivalent depth of expertise in Canadian credit cards (2+ years specialized experience may substitute).

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze content performance data and translate insights into actionable content strategies.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex financial topics for broad audiences.

  • Proven experience with content management, including optimizing existing content and maintaining high editorial standards.

  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with editorial, data, PR, or product teams.

  • Familiarity with SEO/GEO best practices and audience development strategies.

  • Experience interviewing sources and incorporating data into content narratives.

  • Strong communication, ownership mindset, and ability to operate independently with minimal direction.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of Canadian credit cards, travel rewards, and loyalty programs.

  • Experience with multimedia content formats (podcasts, newsletters, video, social media).

  • Experience working with freelance or contract writers.

  • Familiarity with analytics tools and experimentation frameworks.

  • Potential to develop into a public-facing spokesperson.

WHERE:

  • This is a remote position and a person can be located anywhere in Canada (with the exception of Quebec).

  • Nerd Wallet is proud to be a remote-first company! We believe great work can be done anywhere. No matter where you are based, Nerd Wallet offers benefits and perks to support the physical, financial, and emotional well being of you and your family.
