Department Overview
Silvus Technologies was acquired by Motorola Solutions in 2025, and is now part of its ecosystem of safety and security technologies.
With deep roots in DARPA research, Silvus Technologies develops world-class advanced communications technologies that are reshaping the tactical communications landscape. From pure line-of-sight to extreme non-line-of-sight, Silvus radios form a self-healing, self-forming mesh network, enabling secure and reliable connectivity, including video and high-bandwidth data.
Job Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Silvus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior R&D Systems Engineer to join our Research & Development team. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Senior Director of R&D Electronic Warfare and lead the definition and development of next-generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems.
The successful individual in this role will bridge the gap between complex RF hardware, advanced signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures. You will work within a multi-disciplinary R&D team to architect systems that not only detect and counter threats but coordinate these effects across a mesh of intelligent nodes. This position requires a rigorous systems engineering approach to capture designs, manage requirements, and ensure mission success in contested RF environments.
This position is based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles,CA, and is on a hybrid schedule; a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System Architecture & Design: Lead the architectural definition of networked EW systems, decomposing high-level mission requirements into detailed hardware, software, and firmware specifications.
- Requirements Management: Utilize modern requirements management tools to capture, trace, and maintain system requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring full coverage from customer needs to validation testing.
- Technical Documentation: Author and maintain critical engineering artifacts, including System Design Descriptions (SDD), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Con Ops, and Test Plans.
- MBSE Implementation: Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to model system behaviors, states, and data flows, ensuring coherency across distributed network nodes.
- Integration & Test Leadership: Define and oversee system integration strategies; lead hands-on integration events involving RF hardware, embedded software, and network emulators in both lab and field environments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the technical bridge between RF, FPGA, Software, and Mechanical engineering teams, facilitating trade studies to balance performance, SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power), and cost.
- Performance Analysis: Develop simulation models (MATLAB/Python) to predict system performance under realistic channel conditions and validate these models against field test data.
- Travel Requirements - occasional travel for team meetings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex hardware/software systems, with a strong understanding of the V-model, requirements decomposition, and lifecycle management.
- Proven experience in one or more following domains: Electronic Warfare (EA/ES/EP), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Tactical Radios / Wireless Communications (MANET, MIMO, Mesh), or Radar Systems.
- Hands-on experience with modern systems engineering and requirements tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (Magic Draw), IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Gen, Jama Connect, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
- Security Clearance: Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
- All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Master of Science degree Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Understanding of distributed EW concepts, such as TDOA/FDOA geolocation, coherent distributed jamming, or collaborative sensing across a MANET.
- MBSE Mastery: proficiency in SysML (System Modeling Language) and experience creating executable system models.
- RF & Networking fluency; knowledge of RF propagation, link budgets, and modulation techniques.
- Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast) and tactical data links (e.g., Link 16, ATAK integrations).
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or Simulink for data analysis and algorithm modeling.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data to non-technical stakeholders and government customers.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
