Job Description

Moog Wolverhampton is seeking a skilled and proactive Test Equipment Sustainment (Hydraulic/Mechanical) Technician to join our Test Equipment Sustainment and Site Maintenance teams. In this hands-on role, you will perform sustainment, maintenance, and upgrade activities across a wide range of machinery and hydraulic/pneumatic test systems. You will play a vital part in keeping production operations running reliably and safely, ensuring equipment is maintained, compliant, and ready to support ongoing business needs.

Working with multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams, you will troubleshoot issues, execute planned and unplanned maintenance, maintain equipment configuration, and uphold Moog’s high standards for safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve equipment issues causing production stops, quality escapes, or reduced first-pass yield.

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance across machinery and test equipment—hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electronic, electrical, and software-based systems.

  • Conduct component-level repairs, often with limited drawing coverage.

  • Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, regulations, and best practice.

  • Maintain configuration control of all machinery and test equipment deployed on site.

  • Create and update documentation during fault-finding, maintenance, and upgrade activities.

  • Supervise third‑party contractors in accordance with Moog’s contractor control and compliance processes.

  • Manage work assignments and maintenance records using the Moog Maintenance Management System (Pirana).

  • Support root-cause investigations involving machinery and test systems.

  • Complete and review risk assessments; ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.

  • Support internal and external quality audits relating to machinery and test systems.

  • Participate in Lean activities to improve test equipment and site functions.

  • Perform basic IT tasks, including email communications, Teams usage, intranet navigation, and electronic ordering.

  • Specify parts to support effective inventory management for equipment maintenance.

  • Support creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (including Lock, Tag, Try) and act as an authorised competent party.

  • Embody and promote Moog’s values: Trust, Competence, Team Spirit, Diligence, Accountability, Effective Communication, Adaptability, Recognition, and Enjoyment.

Skills & Experience Required

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Mechanical Engineering, or Maintenance disciplines (e.g., BTEC Level 3, PEO Level 3, NVQ Level 3).

  • At least 3 years’ experience building or maintaining hydromechanical machinery or related equipment/infrastructure.

Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Strong mechanical competency with an understanding of basic electrical principles.

  • Experience with maintenance management systems (Pirana preferred).

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.

  • Desirable certifications/competencies in one or more of the following:

  • Hydraulic Hose Safety

  • Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR)

  • British Fluid Power Association (BFPA)

  • National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC)

  • Accumulator Awareness

  • Fluid Power 1

  • Experience with JIRA is advantageous.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in large-scale production or engineering environments.

  • Familiarity with multi-disciplinary maintenance approaches across hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical equipment.

  • Prior involvement in equipment configuration control or documentation.

  • Experience participating in Lean initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong team player who demonstrates Moog values in daily interactions.

  • Ability to remain effective in demanding production and engineering environments.

  • Capable of working independently with guidance from Leads and Engineers.

  • Structured problem-solving capability with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.

  • Flexibility to support out-of-hours breakdown activity when required.

  • Ability to manage small projects and deliver them on time with thorough documentation.

What We Offer

  • Flexible benefits package and development opportunities

  • 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays)

  • Private medical insurance, mental health support, and financial advice

  • Generous life assurance and company pension contribution (from 6%)

  • Employee share options and on-site EV charging

Working Conditions

  • Shift work (Double Days) required to meet business needs.

  • Occasional inconvenient hours and out-of-hours call-out support may be required.
