Overview
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As Microsoft accelerates its AI-first strategy, platform efficiency and cost discipline have become foundational enablers for sustainable growth of Microsoft 365 and Copilot experiences.
The M365 Core Platform Performance & Scale PM team owns the end-to-end efficiency and cost optimization strategy across the Microsoft 365 substrate. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead Microsoft 365 Core Platform Efficiency and COGS Savings, spanning the multiple efficiency workstreams—including Azure infrastructure, telemetry, Copilot workloads, and platform-wide optimization, not limited to any single fleet type.
This role is strategically critical to Microsoft’s AI roadmap. As AI workloads scale rapidly, this position ensures that Microsoft can deliver AI innovation at global scale while maintaining financial sustainability, margin health, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities-
Define and drive the end-to-end M365 Core Platform efficiency and COGS optimization strategy, aligned with Microsoft’s AI and Copilot growth priorities.
-
Lead efficiency initiatives across Azure infrastructure, AI workloads, telemetry platforms, and substrate services, ensuring holistic optimization rather than siloed improvements.
-
Partner with engineering, finance, capacity planning, and Azure platform teams to deliver measurable, durable COGS savings at scale.
-
Establish platform-wide efficiency governance models, including resource right-sizing, autoscaling, workload shaping, oversubscription strategies, and demand management.
-
Identify and execute automation and AI-assisted optimization opportunities, using intelligent insights to reduce operational overhead and accelerate savings.
-
Influence long-term platform architecture and roadmap decisions to embed efficiency-by-design into M365 Core services.
Qualifications-
8+ years of product management experience in large-scale cloud, infrastructure, or platform services.
-
Proven AI‑first mindset with the ability to challenge status quo and drive innovation.
-
Strong technical understanding of Azure infrastructure, distributed systems, and large-scale service platforms.
-
Demonstrated experience driving cost efficiency, COGS optimization, or large-scale resource efficiency programs.
-
Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives spanning multiple teams.
-
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
-
Excellent communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
