One Drive is a rapidly growing app at the center of Microsoft’s cloud, interacting with nearly every part of the company. As the place where millions of people store, organize, and access their most important Photos and Documents, One Drive iOS plays a foundational role in how users engage with their devices and their content.
As a Principal Engineering Manager – One Drive iOS, you will lead a team responsible for delivering worldclass native iOS experiences on i Phone and i Pad. You will work through Engineering Managers and senior engineers to drive architectural decisions, ensure technical excellence, and deliver new capabilities with high quality and velocity.
Our team values deep technical craftsmanship, curiosity, and creativity. We strongly encourage “vibe coding”—exploratory, rapid, AI assisted development enabled by tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code. These tools have become integral to our engineering rhythm, and experience with them is highly recommended.
While the One Drive iOS team is primarily based in the United States, we operate as a globally distributed team that embraces remote work. You will collaborate with colleagues across geographies and time zones, and we are committed to fostering connection, inclusion, and shared purpose no matter where each team member lives and works.
You will partner across PM, Design, and Engineering teams throughout Microsoft to design, prototype, implement, validate, and ship features that bring joy, reliability, and intelligence to the One Drive iOS experience. - Responsibilities- Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.
- Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment.
- Guides team to drive multiple group’s project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
- Guides team and monitors other engineers across product lines, working oncall to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
- Oversees product development and ensures products are scaled according to customer requirements, implementing appropriate techniques to address scaling and performance objectives.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years experience managing a skilled engineering team, growing and nurturing talent, and hiring engineers.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience developing, shipping, and maintaining largescale mobile, web, or desktop applications, with a preference for extensive depth in C++, ObjectiveC, Swift, and JavaScript.
- 3+ years experience planning, leading, and executing engineering projects and delivering impactful results.
- 3+ years experience resolving customer feedback and improving product quality at scale.
- Comfort with AI assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) and working in an engineering culture that encourages rapid, exploratory “vibe coding”.
- Experience building or operating high quality native mobile applications, particularly those requiring strong performance, quality native mobile applications, particularly those requiring solid performance, reliability, and deep platform integration.
- Deep experience building and optimizing native iOS applications using Swift and ObjectiveC.
- Solid understanding of performance tuning, memory management, offline sync, concurrency, and system level behaviors on mobile devices.
- Experience leading teams across distributed and remote friendly environments.
Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
