The Office Android Shared Team powers the shared components and experiences across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Android. We focus on delivering best-in-class UX, enabling next-gen collaboration, and ensuring business-critical fundamentals—all while driving engagement for millions of users.

We at Office Shared Team are looking for creative and driven software engineers with passion for Mobile, and/or full stack development to achieve our vision of redefining the future of office app on Android devices with AI enablement as core priority. As the Principal Software Engineer for Office Shared Team, you will require cross-function integration knowledge, strategic thinking, and superior inter-personal and communication skills. The role is responsible for the overall design and architecture of Mobile apps and around the existing landscape, as well as envisaging and enabling future state infrastructures that will support modern, intelligent services and user experiences, through technological innovation and building partnerships across the company. This position will be directly responsible for driving critical fundamental changes in Office Android Apps to improve performance, reliability and modernizing the application to newer mobile and AI technology.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and optimize core components of the Office Android application using Java, Kotlin, and C++.
• Lead technical design discussions and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless, high-performance experiences.
• Drive innovation in UX, performance, and reliability across shared mobile infrastructure.
• Own end-to-end delivery of features, from ideation to release and telemetry analysis.
• Leverage subject-matter expertise to drive project plans, release plans, and work items in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to trends, technical solutions, and patterns to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.

Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• OR equivalent experience.
• Solid understanding of Android architecture, UI frameworks, and performance tuning.
• Experience with native code integration (JNI) and memory management.
• Fast learner with good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Solid in analytical problem solving and good fundamentals in CS.
• Passion for learning new skills with the ability to thrive in a feedback-driven environment.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• OR equivalent experience.
