Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Global Project Controls (GPC) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help fill the critical role of Senior Estimator.

  • This role is located either in one or all hub locations
  • Atlanta, Redmond (Primary), Phoenix, Washington DC, or San Antonio.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid work, up to 60% work in the office.

Responsibilities Responsibilities:

  • Estimate the cost of our datacenter projects to support the short- and long-term plans for the corporation.
  • Partner collaboratively with cross-functional teams (design engineering, construction, cost controls functions, scheduling, finance, etc.) to understand requirements and ensure alignment to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop and maintain estimating databases and templates specific to the role.
  • Report to senior managers on estimate data, project cost progress, and assumptions to ensure a clear and concise message is sent and understood.
  • Perform different types of estimates and projects, while keeping delivery dates as a top priority.
  • Support, develop and improve estimating processes and procedures.
  • Drive standardization and consistency throughout the group.
  • Demonstrated ability to review quantitative or conceptual problems and situations to draw appropriate and valid conclusions from data presented. This includes analyzing data to determine the most significant elements, identify common elements and themes in situations and actions, and recognize cause and effect relationships.
  • Review engineering documentation/designs, site, and building plans by examining and analyzing technical information. Identifies potential risks/gaps and provide recommendations to project teams that mitigate risk and improve overall constructability. Align project/program delivery with execution procedures and standards and ensure alignment with organizational standards and commitments.
  • Create and apply best practices to identify and incorporate cost-effective solutions for the strategic and tactical delivery of a construction project. Apply influence, strategy, and decision-making to drive solutions, schedules, and manage change with clients, sponsors, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to follow systematic and continuing processes of checking to see whether an estimate is meeting specified requirements. This includes knowledge of quality measurements and defined standards.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field AND 10+ years related experience OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep commercial knowledge of construction internationally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to collaborate with all other areas of the data center program, able to think tactically and strategically, ability to build the trust of our construction partners to agree to very large construction contracts.
  • Must possess a clear understanding of the full Construction Life Cycle
  • Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms up, and high level what-if scenarios.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills beyond estimating practice.
  • Develop, maintain, and report out on project scope, schedule, and budget with cost as the main driver in those conversations.
  • Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations with proven success in participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects.
  • Should be able to work within a dynamic team of full-time employees and consultants.
  • High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished, and quality work estimate and/or any other report-out deliverable.

Construction Project Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $116,900 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $148,400 - $222,600 per year.
