The SSD Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for development to support required mechanical and thermal objectives on the hardware SSD team. The successful candidate will have experience in mechanical design, thermal design and documenting associated requirements. The primary focus will be to support the mechanical architecture and requirements for each program supported by hardware engineering. You will help schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all the technical activities associated with mechanical advanced development and provide oversight from concept through implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • Support mechanical and thermal design activities for SSD hardware programs under guidance of senior engineers• Assist in documenting mechanical and thermal designs in internal hardware design and specification documents
  • Create and update 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Solid Works or equivalent tools
  • Support enclosure and component designs considering manufacturing method, cost, and volume requirements
  • Participate in mechanical and thermal testing, including thermal characterization, shock, and vibration testing
  • Support thermal simulations and help correlate simulation results with lab measurements
  • Assist in evaluating thermal tradeoffs related to power levels and operating environments
  • Contribute to DFM reviews, basic tolerance analysis, and design improvement activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (junior or senior preferred)• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with coursework or project experience in heat transfer or thermodynamics

  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Solid Works preferred)

  • Interest in thermal management and mechanical design of electronic hardware

  • Comfortable working in a hands‑on lab environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and basic manufacturing concepts
  • Exposure to thermal analysis, FEA, or CFD through coursework or projects is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with good documentation and reporting skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a team environment

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:

$46.51 - $55.82 an hour

Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity.
