
Thermal SW application & functional integration engineer
About the role
To support RD China’s strategy of maximizing the local ecosystem and delivering a best-in-class thermal comfort experience for Chinese customers, the local Thermal Management team develops and localizes innovative thermal comfort and thermal management solutions for Mercedes-Benz carlines in China. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Thermal Management Expert to drive the local business growth.
1.
EE Thermal Requirements & System Definition:
- Define and manage E/E-related thermal management requirements for localized vehicle programs.
- Benchmark competitive HVAC and thermal systems with focus on E/E architecture, diagnostics, networking, UI, and system integration.
- Specify China-specific E/E thermal functions and interfaces.
- Drive alignment with System Responsibles, Module Group Speakers, OBD Coordinators, and System Integrators to ensure target achievement and customer satisfaction.

HVAC Function Development & Integration:
- Lead end-to-end development of thermal management E/E functions, from requirements through integration, validation, and release.
- Coordinate function test strategies, test cases, and validation activities across component, system, and vehicle levels.
- Collaborate with RD China, RD Germany, and cross-functional teams to ensure robust and efficient function implementation.
- Own E/E release readiness for China-specific thermal functions.

Troubleshooting & Change Management:
- Serve as the primary interface for all thermal management-related E/E and software topics.
- Lead root-cause analysis, debugging, and issue resolution together with RD Germany and RD India.
- Ensure production readiness and support vehicle ramp-up activities.
- Manage issue tracking, maturity reporting, hotfixes, and engineering changes throughout development and series production.

Validation & Release:
- Validate E/E functions through bench test, FMU, climatic wind tunnel, and road testing.
- Ensure timely completion of E/E function releases according to project milestones.
- Monitor field quality and drive continuous improvement from the customer perspective.
Qualification
Education:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Automotive Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience- More than 8 years of professional experience in the automotive industry.

At least 5 years of experience with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in the field of HVAC, thermal management systems, or thermal software development.

Proven experience in the development, integration, validation, and release of automotive thermal comfort and thermal management systems.

Specific Knowledge & Competencies- Self-motivated and accountable, with strong analytical and independent problem-solving skills.

Sound knowledge of systems engineering and software development processes, including V-Model development, ASPICE SYS, AUTOSAR, requirements engineering, software implementation, integration, and validation at component, system, and vehicle levels using CiL and HiL methodologies.

Proficient in system and software development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Vector toolchain (e.g., PREEvision, CANoe, CANDELA, ODX-Studio), DTS Monaco, DNG, and related automotive engineering tools.

Strong system expertise in thermal comfort and thermal management systems, with solid knowledge of key components including HVAC units, electric compressors, heat pumps, heaters, radiators, condensers, and refrigerant circuits.

Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills, combined with intercultural competence in a global development environment.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills when working with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and international partners.

Fluent in English; German language skills are an advantage.
