Responsibilities
Coordinates emergent and non-emergent requests for Mayo Clinic Florida Medical Transport services, including interfacility ambulance transports, flight team escorts, organ transport operations, and community paramedicine visits. Manages and triages incoming requests via phone, radio, and digital platforms to ensure timely, appropriate dispatch of ambulance resources. May also require the delivery of 911 caller pre-arrival instructions. Maintains real-time communication with field crews, hospital departments, and external partners to coordinate patient movement to and from Mayo Clinic Florida, as well as to out-of-network facilities when necessary. Provides accurate pre-arrival notifications to receiving teams and facilitates communication between clinical teams and transport crews. Initiates emergency team activations (e.g., Stroke Alerts, Trauma Activations, Rapid Response) per Mayo Clinic Florida protocols, ensuring timely coordination with the Emergency Department, inpatient units, and specialty teams. Supports coordination of critical care transports, including ground and air-based assets when indicated.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in customer service, a call center, or a dispatch environment, with EMT or other clinical experience preferred. Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of hire (provided by Mayo Clinic), and a Florida Department of Health–approved 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator training program must be completed at hire or within the first twelve (12) months. Proficiency with two-way radio and emergency communications systems, basic computer and data-entry skills (35 words per minute), and clear, professional communication are essential. Applicants must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm under pressure.
